NOTICE - RUSSELL TRANSFER STATION CLOSING ON SATURDAYS Please note that our Waste Transfer Station located at 211 Corduroy Road will be closed on Saturdays from December 1st, 2015 to March 1st, 2016. The facility will continue to be open to receive waste from Mondays to Fridays from 7am to 5pm. Our facility located at 17125 Lafleche Road in Moose Creek is open on Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm. Une trentaine d’élèves de la classe demode et stylisme de l’enseignante Isabelle Lecôt, de l’École secondaire catholique Embrun, ont fait une virée à L’Académie de Dessin et de Mode de Richard Robinson, designer haute couture de renom, à Ottawa. Ils ont pu visiter les locaux, les classes et en apprendre davantage sur les différents cours offerts par L’Académie. Une rencontre enrichissante qui permet d’ouvrir de nouvelles perspectives aux élèves de Mme Lecot. Les élèves entourent fièrement Richard Robinson que l’on voit au centre de la photo.
STEO prepares winter bus travel The Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario (STEO) consortium is preparing for the arrival of winter. The group manages student busing services for the Catholic District School Board of Eas- tern Ontario and the Upper Canada District School Board. The STEO has sent out letters to parents of students in both districts updating them on the process for notices of bus cancellations due to inclement weather and/or hazardous road conditions. The STEO uses its own website, at www. steo.ca, and also radio and television notices to announce bus service cancellations or delays. STEO staff review weather forecasts every day before 2 p.m. for any foul weather alerts that could affect student transport and then notify bus contractors. Forecasts are reviewed again at 9:30 p.m. If storm, freezing rain or other weather problems are expected, the STEO calls Pelmorex/The Weather Network at 4:30 a.m and also a group of consulting contractors on road conditions for a final check. Information from police and municipal road crews is added to the data before making any cancellation decisions. The school district has the final decision on route cancellations, which are made by 5:45 a.m. as some buses begin driving at 6 a.m. Parents are advised to check both the STEO and their local school district website on a regular basis for bus service notices. – Gregg Chamberlain
