Ken Carscadden saw an opportunity to realized two goals when he decided to buy out the existing BMR building supply in Embrun and turn it into aHome Hardware outlet. First was starting an expansion of the family hardware business and second «I’ve been looking to get into the lumber side of things,» Carscadden said, during a phone interview at his new Embrun premises. «Home Hardware (headquarters) called me about this opportunity.» was to at last get into the lumber supply side of the hardware retail trade. «I’ve been looking to get into the lumber side of things,» Carscadden said, during a phone interview at his new Embrun pre- mises. «Home Hardware (headquarters) called me about this opportunity.» The Carscadden family has been involved in the hardware and building supply trade for more than three decades, since Ken’s father, Barry, took over the building sup- ply store in Russell Village and made it a Home Hardware franchise. The Carscadden family was the third owners of the premises and Ken took over proprietorship from his father in 2000 and kept the family business going as a longstanding part of the village’s commercial core. «I enjoy helping people,» Carscadden said, explaining why the hardware trade held so much fascination for him. For now, besides building up his knowledge of two-by-fours, plywood shee- ting, and other things in the lumber yard, Carscadden is also focused for the next few weeks on the rebranding side of his new outlet, switching over the stock to that which is customary for Home Hardware and also developing the strengths in paint supplies and other features that have become the stock in trade for a Home Hardware dealer.
