vement. The award recognizes the school’s success in promoting diversity, equity, and exclusivity both within the institution itself and also the surrounding community. «It was an amazing experience,» said Lisa Elminowski, RHS teacher/advisor for the PRIDE Alliance. «It was something that cannot even be explained, just how special it was for us to get this recognition, and be ranked among some of the most incredible activists in the province.» «Honestly, it’s really great,» said Nichole Peters, RHS Grade 11 student, «because it shows people that even a smaller school can make a big difference. It shows that, with the right amount of effort, we have the power to make change.» The Harmony School of the Year award recognizes efforts of the RHS PRIDE Alliance and others in the school in making use of

A. Samuel Leadership in Education Award. Named after a human rights advocate, the award pays tribute to someone in an admi- nistrative, research or academic role in edu- cation, who has made a significant contri- bution to promoting equity in education. Taylor has been an advocate for human rights and diversity throughout her career in education and was one of the organizers of the Twitter hash tag feed, #SEEMYVOICE, which spreads awareness of equity issues. She shared credit for the Harmony Move- ment award with UCDSB Superintendent Susan Edwards and the UCDSB Equity and Inclusion Network. «It helps send amessage to our students and communities that we are a board that values equity and inclusion,» said Taylor, «and a board working to create spaces where all students belong.»
