Prerequisites: Bronze Cross Age: 14 years and up

Through classroom learning and in water practice, the Assistant Instructor course prepares candidates to help certified instructors with swimming and lifesaving classes. Candidates are introduced to key principles of learning and teaching, as they master basic progressions of teaching. The roles and responsibilities of instructors and their assistants are emphasized. Upon successful completion of this dual award, candidates will be able to instruct the Lifesaving Society’s Learn to Swim program consisting of Parent & Tot, Preschool and Swimmer age groups and Advanced lifesaving awards such as Swim Patrol, and the Bronze awards. In this, course time is devoted in both classroom and water sessions to developing skills in the areas of class management, teaching, evaluation, leadership, communication and administration. These awards remain current for two years from the date of certification. Candidates must bring proof of prerequisite awards to the first class. Course Dates
