George Wesley Bellows was a 20 th century American realist painter. His art shows scenes of people living in the city of New York as they go to work, play in streets, and attend amateur boxing matches and other social events. Bellows liked sports of many kinds. He played baseball and basketball in college. He decided to pursue painting in New York, where he met The Eight . This group of painters made paintings of city scenes and the life of the low income worker. PREP NOTES FOR LESSON 2 You may be asked to pose for your child’s drawing. You could sit in a chair and read a book or browse through an app while your child works to perfect their lines. If there is more than one child, the children could sit for each other. Plan to sit for at least 15 minutes.
