There are so many ways to see the world, and each is unique and personal. Mountain trekking offers something entirely of its own. At 5,346m, the incredible trek to Everest Base Camp takes you over halfway to the peak of the world’s tallest mountain, and from verdant Nepalese foothills to endless white snow. And to support her, the Hays Travel Foundation donated £2,635 on top of the £5,270 she already raised for the local children’s cause. The Foundation supports education, poverty relief, and the health of young people in the UK, and has donated £1.1m so far. After a demanding 13-day climb, Hollie explained that at the peak “I’d never felt this immense before. The sun was shining, the skies were almost clear and the atmosphere was electric. Every time you see a new view the adrenaline comes back. Finally, we made it. I stepped over and touched that Base Camp rock. The feeling was euphoric.”
Though not quite Everest, at 4,167m, Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa, with a summit that stretches beyond its siblings across the Atlas Mountain range. This three-day trek will take you to Berber mountain villages and pilgrimage sites, introduce you to local life and reward you with extraordinary sunrises from the clouds.
