all worthwhile challenges. You don’t want to take the easy route your whole life. Constantly seeking out new challenges can give you a greater sense of pride and accomplishment. Take time out of your day to recognize those around you who display these traits too. By building up your core team members, you will surround yourself with people who will hold you accountable when you stray off the path. THROWING FAILURE ASIDE No matter what business you’re in, you’re not in the business of failure. That being said, you aren’t immune to it, either. If you stick around long enough and take enough risks along the way, failure is almost inevitable. It’s how you deal with that failure that sets you apart from the crowd. This goes back to accepting challenges, as we touched on earlier. Make sure you’re living a life you would want to tell your grandkids about with pride and gusto. Sometimes you’ve just got to close your eyes, get ready for the steps ahead, and take a leap of faith into a new venture. That’s what being a self-starter is all about.

You want your career to be something that makes you jump out of bed in the morning. While it can be easy to lose track of that during your daily grind, you should always strive to be proactive in your motivation. This doesn’t mean you have to be a morning person — they are the worst, aren’t they? It simply means laying down some foundations. Your goal should be to reach a point where you can be proud of yourself whether you’re at work or at play. Being a self-starter has many faces, but it starts and ends with your attitude. Let’s take a look at some of the most important components of adapting yourself to success.

Creole Seasoning Ingredients • 2 tablespoons paprika • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder • 1/2 tablespoon onion powder • 1/2 tablespoon cayenne or chili powder • 1/4 tablespoon dried oregano • 1/4 tablespoon dried thyme

Ingredients • 1/2 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined • 1/2 pound cooked sausage, cut into 1-inch pieces • 2 zucchini, cut into 1/2-inch cubes • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil • Wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes

Directions 1. Heat your grill to medium-high.

2. In a bowl, combine all ingredients for creole seasoning. 3. In a large bowl, combine the shrimp, zucchini pieces, and sausage pieces, and cover them with the olive oil. 4. Add creole seasoning and mix well until all ingredients are covered. 5. Load up skewers with alternating pieces of shrimp, sausage, and zucchini until they’re full. 6. Grill skewers until shrimp are well-cooked (6–8 minutes).
