Two men died when their vehicles ran into each other in an early-morning collision near Alfred. Police and paramedics were called to the scene on Jan. 3 soon after 3 a.m. The fatal accident occurred on County Road 17 between the intersections of County Road 15 and Peladeau Road. Dead are Ghislain Landry, 31, of Orléans, and Gordon Wray, 56, of Ottawa. Landry was driving a pickup truck and Wray a transport truck when their vehicles hit head-on. Neither had seatbelts on. A local dog owner may be getting a call from either city hall or the public health unit after a too-close encounter between the family pet and the OPP. On Jan. 5 the detachment received two calls to a residence in the City of Clarence-Rockland. A different officer went out each time and each time the officer who made the house call got bit. Both officers suffered slight wounds from their canine encounters. The OPP detachment has notified the municipal bylaw department and the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU).
