King's Business - 1951-10

The Equipment for the Commission vv. 10, 13-15 In order to carry out God’s plan, Moses was given adequate equipment. This included (1) the assurance that it was God’s will, v. 10, (2) the presence of God and a token of it, v. 12, (3) the use of thé divine name, I AM, vv. 13-15. This was the most sacred of all the names for God. It was an explanation of the name Jehovah, the self-existent one. This was God’s redemptive name, the name by which He came close to men. In it God was like Jesus. With a name like this to present to men victory may be expected. Helps for the Children The Call of Moses Ex. 3 Memory Verse: God said, “ Certainly I will be with thee” (Ex. 3:12). Moses, the baby whom God had saved from death, grew to be a wealthy, well- educated young man. One day he be came angry and sinned and had to flee to the desert to save his life from the king. Moses became a shepherd. For forty years he spent long, lonely hours watch ing the sheep for his father-in-law. One day Moses saw a strange sight. A bush was burning, but it did not disappear. Moses went closer to see what sort of strange thing was happening. God called to Moses from the midst of the burning bush. When Moses answered, “ Here am I,” God said, “ Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.” God told Moses that He had seen the oppression of His people, the Jews, and that He planned now to de liver them and to give them a land of their own. God had chosen Moses to be their deliverer! When Moses said that he could not do such a great task, God answered, “ Certainly I will be with thee.” God commanded Moses to tell the leaders of the Jews that he was to be their deliverer and then to go to the great king and ask that the Jews be al lowed to go a three days’ journey into the wilderness to sacrifice to God. The king would refuse to let them go until God had brought great punishment upon him and his wicked people. Whenever God’s people are in need, God always has a plan for their de liverance. God always had a person or a church or a group of people whom He can use better than any other for His purpose. If that person or that church or group refuses to obey God’s call, someone else must be used; but God’s will has not been done. God always uses certain people for certain work. He can only use those who are constantly listen ing for His voice to tell them where to go and what to say and how to serve Him. Sometimes God’s call comes to us through His Word; sometimes it comes to us through the voice of Christian parents or a pastor or a Sunday school teacher or missionary. Whatever His call, those who answer may know that they have His precious promise, “ Cer tainly I will be with thee.” T H E K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S
