End of ecoLarose project The official end of the ecoLarose project will take place at the end of the month when the United Counties of Prescott-Russell council (UCPR) receives a resolution from administration to cancel the project and take the $4 million dedicated from the UCPR working fund for the project and divide the money instead among the eight member municipalities for their own infrastructure needs. UCPR administration had gotten a brief reprieve last month on the project cancellation to try one last time to get either provincial or federal confirmation of interest and willingness to a one-third sharing partnership on the estimated $12 million cost for the project or find a private sector outfit willing to take on the counties’ share. The ecoLarose project involved building a conference centre and natural history interpretation and research centre in the Larose Forest bordering The Nation and the City of Clarence-Rockland. UCPR Chief Administrator Stéphane Parisien reported «conflic- ting messages» in response to local interest inquiries, prompting counties staff to abandon further efforts to salvage the project. – Gregg Chamberlain
