The Student Athletic Fee is a critical source of funding for the Department of Athletics and has not been modified since AY14-15. With the severe decline in enrollment since FY20, coupled with significant inflationary costs of goods and services within all areas of athletics, the Student Athletic Fee revenue has decreased from $1,475,199 to this year’s projected total of $979,515 – a 34% reduction. When one considers the cumulative price increase of 27.59% over the past 6 years, the buying power of the Stu dent Athletic Fee has been severely impacted. The proposed fee increase is based on an average inflation rate of approximately 2.5% - still under the actual inflation rate of 2.8% in the United States from 2014 to 2026. This increase will allow the Depar tment of Athletics to operate in a manner that does not compromise the student -athlete experience, their safety, and their ability to excel in competition and in the classroom. This fee is only charged to Ellensburg students.

The student initiated Basic Needs Fee supports students experiencing trouble with food access, housing, and other circumstances that would hinder their academics and overall well-being. The fee was introduced in AY2023-2024 at $6.00 per quarter and the proposal is to increase $9.00 for a total quarterly fee of $15.00 per quarter. The fee is only charged to Ellensburg students. Fee Repeals In an overall effort to minimize the impact of fees on students, we are proposing to repeal two fees, the Multi -Modal and Library fees. The services provided by these two fees will be maintained by a combination of institutional fund s and for some elements of the Multi -Modal fee, a specific course fee related to online courses.
