faculty representatives in order to 1) eliminate the Code and replace it with a set of guidelines; and 2) engage in a complete revision of its contents. o Rationale Provided (2025 Shared Governance Alignment) Does Not Match : Most alarmingly, the rationale provided to the Faculty Senate leadership for Code revision (alignment with the 2025 Shared Governance document) does not match the actions of President Wohlpart, which include violating 1966 Joint Statement principles, namely, “Faculty representatives should be selected by the faculty according to procedures determined by the faculty.” 18 President Wohlpart has violated shared governance with the stated rationale of integrating shared governance. The faculty do not have reason to trust him on this point, as his actions and his words are out of step. o CWU Faculty Code is a living document reflecting decades of compromise : Further, this proposal would erase a document that has existed for the benefit of CWU for eighty years, allowing the President’s Office to consolidate an unprecedented amount of power and authority. Such a move would make CWU an outlier, as compared to other public institutions in Washington. 19 ● Threats to Substantially Decrease the Size of the Faculty Senate. Though Faculty Senate is the agency for the representation of views of the whole faculty on academic matters, established as such in both the Faculty Code 20 and the Collective Bargaining Agreement 21 President Wohlpart has repeatedly requested to reduce it in size. o Request to reduce/diminish senate size/scope, 2024 - 2025: During AY 2024 - 2025, President Wohlpart indicated he believed the membership and scope of the Faculty Senate should be reduced. He asked the Senate leadership to make a change to the Faculty Code to reduce the size of the Senate. As a representative body, Senate leadership appropriately
