Committee has historically reviewed proposed changes related to academic affairs. Approval of a new modality without consultation with faculty represents a radical departure to policy processes. Because the Faculty Senate Curriculum Committee noted concerns about the adopted Hyflex definition, the FSEC requested that the Provost consider changes to the definition, proposed by the Academic Affairs Committee and voted on by the Faculty Senate. 40 The Senate-approved definition was shared with the Provost but has not been adopted in policy because of ongoing disagreements about the language. The Executive Committee notes the importance of continued clarity regarding how procedural authority and shared governance expectations are balanced, particularly when changes affect academic operations, faculty work, or accreditation-relevant areas.
