MARCH 2020

DON’T LET THE WINTER MONTHS Dictate What You’ll Look Like During Summer

T hey say the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. But since time travel hasn’t been invented yet, I guess the moral of that advice is the best time to start any investment in the future is right now. Did you sign up for a road race during the summer? Do you have home repairs you need to save up for? There’s no time like right now to start working toward those goals. Likewise, the same principle applies for CoolSculpting. While CoolSculpting is known for getting rid of the pesky fat that won’t go away with a regular diet or exercise routine, it will still be around 3–4 months before you see the optimal results of the procedure. So, if you’re trying to get the ideal summer body before the weather warms up in earnest, now is the best time to set up a CoolSculpting appointment. Even though spring is approaching, it certainly won’t feel like it’s here in Pennsylvania for a little while longer. March is bound to be cold and wet — not necessarily the type of weather that makes you think summer days spent out by the lake or lounging

next to the pool are anywhere on the horizon. Nevertheless, the seasons will change just as they do every year, and also just like every year, plenty of people will be caught wishing they had started dieting, exercising, and CoolSculpting earlier.

At Cool Renew Med Spa, February, March, April, and May are some of our busiest months. It’s anytime during that four-month period that the cold stops grabbing ahold of everybody’s minds and they begin to look toward summer. February may have already passed, but if you make a CoolSculpting appointment this month, you can still spend your summer feeling good and looking great. Along with CoolSculpting, if you’re planning on scheduling an appointment for laser hair removal in anticipation of warmer weather, I would recommend doing that sooner rather than later. Laser hair removal can take anywhere between five and eight appointments, which could be spread out over months. It’s a procedure that’s absolutely worth planning ahead for so you can make sure you look your best out by the pool, boating on the lake, or just tanning in your yard. Don’t let the winter months dictate how you’ll look during summer. With the right amount of planning, you can have the summer body you’ve always dreamed of.

It’s really easy to adopt a sort of “cabin fever” mindset during winter. We stop leaving our houses unless absolutely necessary, throw on as many layers and blankets as we deem necessary, stop watching what we eat so closely, and hunker down for 4–6 long months of cold and snow. However, if we’re not mindful, the warm days will catch us unaware and unprepared to enjoy them to the fullest extent we can. We want to know we’ll be able to have fun in the sun and look good doing it. “If we’re not mindful, the warm days will catch us unaware and unprepared to enjoy them to the fullest extent we can. We want to know we’ll be able to have fun in the sun and look good doing it.”

Your Guide to Spring- Greening

3 ECO-FRIENDLY HOME SWAPS TO MAKE WHEN YOU DECLUTTER

It takes a special kind of person to enjoy spring- cleaning. For most of us, the satisfaction of a clean house doesn’t quite outweigh the hours of scrubbing, sorting, and slogging through heaps of unnecessary stuff. If you’re struggling to find the motivation to start your spring-cleaning, try flipping the paradigm: Instead of spring-cleaning, think of what you’re doing as spring- greening , and make some eco-friendly swaps along the way. Here are a few ideas to get you started. 1. SWAP YOUR PLASTIC SPRAY BOTTLES FOR BULK OR DIY CLEANING PRODUCTS. According to a Statista report, in 2019, the household cleaners market was worth more than $31 billion, and it’s continuously growing. You can save money on cleaning supplies by taking the green route. When your current

stock runs out, try buying bulk cleaners or making your own. Both options will save plastic because you can reuse your bottles, and they can help you avoid the harmful chemicals found in most cleaners. Visit UnderATinRoof. com and read the blog post “Zero Waste Cleaning Supplies + Recipes” to get started. If you’re used to using a plastic jug of liquid laundry detergent, it’s time to step out of your comfort zone. This spring, try exploring greener alternatives like plant-based bulk laundry powder (Molly’s Suds is an excellent source). Or, if you’re feeling really adventurous, you can even try adding all-natural cleaners like soap nuts or English ivy to your laundry loads. For more on the former, search “soap nuts” on 1MillionWomen.com, and 2. EXPLORE ALTERNATIVE LAUNDRY DETERGENTS.

read up on ivy detergent at Permacrafters.com/ English-Ivy-Laundry-Detergent.

3. SAY GOODBYE TO PAPER TOWELS. Paper towels are a mainstay in American homes, but do we really need them when a good old-fashioned rag can do the job? According to the Ocean Conservancy, 13 billion pounds of paper towels are tossed in the U.S. each year! This spring, quit paper towels and keep a stash of dish rags under the sink to do your dirty work. When you’re cleaning out your closet, you can even cut up old T-shirts and add them to your rag stash! If you’re brave, try giving up tissues, too — an old-school hanky does the trick. If you’ve made all three of these swaps, don’t stop there! To continue your green journey, visit any of the blogs mentioned above and start browsing.

In Half the Time BETTER THAN A FACIAL

Diet, exercise, and CoolSculpting are all important steps anyone can take to get themselves ready for the summer months. That said, one other treatment can leave your face glowing as if the sun were always shining on it. This is no ordinary facial — it’s HydraFacial. WHAT IS HYDRAFACIAL? The HydraFacial treatment is the only facial cleanse and rejuvenation procedure you will ever need. In 30 minutes, one of our trained professional staff will use the HydraFacial to wash years away in just three steps. First, the patented HydraFacial technology will refreshingly cleanse your face by uncovering a new layer of skin. Then, it will remove any debris trapped in your pores before nourishing your skin with moisturizers. Finally, it will preserve your face’s newfound glow with antioxidants and peptides. WHY ISN’T THIS JUST A FACIAL? While HydraFacial may sound like just an ordinary facial in some respects, it is actually so much better. A good facial requires multiple

steps for cleansing, steaming, exfoliating, and massaging your skin. On average, a basic facial can take twice as

long as HydraFacial to meet the same goal. Not even the best facial can compete with the thorough results of a 30-minute HydraFacial treatment.

IS IT THE RIGHT PROCEDURE FOR ME? If you’re wondering if anything could prevent you from experiencing the refreshing joy of a HydraFacial treatment, the answer is an emphatic no. Anyone can get rid of enlarged pores, congested skin, or fine lines and wrinkles. So, what are you waiting for? Make your HydraFacial appointment with Cool Renew Med Spa today! If you come into Cool Renew Med Spa for a HydraFacial appointment, a CoolSculpting appointment, or for any other reason, mention you read our newsletter for $200 off your next CoolSculpting treatment , and don’t forget to ask us about our options for interest-free financing!

MASCARA OR EXTENSIONS? Is Mascara on Its Way Out?

According to a New York Post article from earlier this year, mascara sales are down and fake eyelashes are to blame — particularly eyelash extensions. While this more permanent option for adding length and volume to the wearer’s eyelashes was once too pricey to be a viable beauty option, a lot of less expensive, quality alternatives have hit the market in recent years. Does this mean mascara products are circling the drain? Mario Dedivanovic, the Kardashians’ go-to makeup artist, told CNN it wasn’t as simple as that. He insisted mascara would always have a place among beauty products, but eyelash extensions are just an easier lifestyle choice for many women right now. Many celebrity cosmetic lines have reacted to (or created) this trend by not including mascara in their most recent product launches. Mascara sales are currently down 7%.

more and more popular, boosted by an array of affordable extension options and the fact that they’re a favorite product of the Kardashians. However, “affordable” doesn’t always mean inexpensive. Appointments to get eyelash extensions still cost anywhere between $100–$250 for professional application, and between $40–$60 for fill-in appointments every three weeks. For some women, that could be worth it because, with eyelash extensions, you don’t need to use mascara to enhance their length or volume; all you have to do each morning is comb them. You can wear them in the pool, at the beach, or even while doing hot yoga. For what you lose on extensions in terms of cost, you might make up for in terms of convenience. While extensions may not kick mascara off the shelves anytime soon, they certainly open up more options for you to accentuate your eyes.

While mascara will always have a place on store shelves and bathroom cabinets, fake eyelashes are becoming

Tackling a Common Skin Issue

WHAT’S UP WITH MILIA? Digging Into This Common Skin Issue

No, milia isn’t the newest celebrity guest on “Dancing With the Stars.” Sometimes called milk spots, milia are the tiny white bumps most of us have probably noticed on our skin at some point. While they may look similar to whiteheads, they aren’t the same, so before you take to squeezing and popping, here’s what you need to know.

contributor to milia formation. Heavy creams or harsh products used around the eye area may cause milia on the eyelids specifically.

WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THEM? First, avoid the temptation to squeeze or pop the little bumps. This will only damage your skin further and won’t remove the milia. Milia will often go away on their own, but a few things can help speed up that process or even prevent them. Because milia are caused by trapped dead skin cells, gentle exfoliation can treat them and prevent them from cropping up in the first place. Make sure you take off makeup before bed and cleanse your skin properly to help reduce buildup on your face. Also, opt for lightweight moisturizers rather than heavy creams, especially around the eyes. You can also turn to a skincare professional to safely remove the bumps. As dermatologist Dr. Anjali Mahto points out, milia are often the result of sun damage, so another tip to prevent them is to avoid overexposure to the sun. Wear protective layers and hats, and make sunscreen a part of your daily routine, even in winter.

WHAT ARE THEY? Milia are cysts made up of entrapped keratin, a type of protein that makes up skin, hair, and nails. When dead skin cells get trapped beneath the skin, they appear as small white or yellowish bumps. They often show up around the eyes, nose, and cheeks but can appear on other areas of the body as well. WHAT CAUSES THEM? While many different things can contribute to the formation of milia, one of the main sources is skin damage. Sun damage, in particular, is a big
