An advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) is a licensed professional nurse who is additionally licensed in an advanced nursing practice, including certified nurse midwives (CNM), certified nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse specialists, and psychiatric nurses. This legislation would have removed the requirement that autonomous APRNs practice exclusively in primary care and it would have authorized them to perform their general functions as an APRN, and any specific functions related to their specialty area without physician supervision. Coverage for Skin Cancer Screenings - FAILED (AARP Supported) House Bill 785, by Representative Massullo (companion Senate Bill 142, by Senator Harrell). The legislation would have created section 627.64198, 627.66912 and 641.31091, Florida Statutes. The legislation would have required all individual health insurers; all group, blanket, and franchise health insurers; and all health maintenance organizations (HMOs) to cover and pay for annual skin cancer screenings performed by a Florida licensed dermatologist. The bill would have prohibited an insurer or HMO from imposing any cost-sharing requirement for the annual skin cancer screening, including a deductible, copayment, coinsurance, or any other type of cost-sharing.
