Technology Innovation House Bill 1391 and Companion Senate Bill 1870 The legislation creates the Financial Technology Sandbox within the Office of Financial Regulation (OFR). A sandbox licensee is exempt from specified provisions of general law and the corresponding rule requirements during the sandbox period. AARP worked with the House sponsor to get the most objectionable provisions relating to predatory loans amended out of the bill. The legislation is now Chapter No. 2020-160, Laws of Florida, effective January 1, 2021. essential electric service programs. Sales and Use Tax Senate Bill 126 and Companion House Bill 159 Florida is one of seven states that do not require remote (i.e., out-of-state) retailers to collect and remit sales taxes from online purchases. The legislation would have required online sellers to collect sales tax and remit it to the state. It would have applied to online retailers that sell at least 200 items or exceed $100,000 in sales during the prior year.
