duties and details of th e daily life; sub ject to the au tho rity of th e home,— and yet all things were subject to Him! W hat a wonder it is to us, as we seek to realize how He could w ait patiently all those years in a little village, doing w h at He was bidden to do; waiting pa tien tly un til His hour came; as He waits now un til th e glad hour comes when He will come back home to Jerusalem and rule, where He was once beaten w ith many stripes. (3) A HEALTHY HOME, 2 Tim. 3:14, 15. H ere in a few sentences we have a th ird pictu re of a Christian home. Paul was Timothy’s sp iritu al fath er, and knew of his home life. He tells us clearly th a t Timothy’s new b irth had its foundation in a well-grounded knowl edge of th e Word of God, as ta u g h t him by his mother— his Jew ish mother, — Eunice; she had been ta u g h t by her mother, Lois, and in them th e re was the unfeigned faith. (2 Tim. 1 :5 ): “ W h e n , I c a ll to r e m e m b r a n c e t h e u n f e i g n e d f a i t h t h a t is i n th e e , w h ic h d w e lt f ir s t in t h y g r a n d m o t h e r L o is , a n d t h y m o t h e r E u n i c e ; a n d I a m p e r s u a d e d t h a t i n t h e e a ls o .” , Now P au l says: “Evil days are com ing; th e re will be perilous tim es; bu t continue in th e faith ; faith in th e things which thou h ast learned.” W hat Tim othy learned as a child gave him fa,ith in God’s Word. F a ith in th e Scriptures was used of God to open his eyes to the tru th of salvation th rough faith which is in Christ Jesus. The best tim e , to teach th e Scriptures is when the child is young, when th e m ind is impression able; and the Bible stories are the best in th e world to in te rest th e young mind and to awaken a real faith in th e cross of Christ. Well said Queen E lizabeth: “ I walk many tim es in th e fields of the Holy Scriptures, where I pick up th e goodliest herbs of sentences by prun ing; eat them by reading; digest them by musing; and lay them up a t length in th e high seat of memory by gath er ing them together; so that,- having
ceive the b ittern ess of life.” If you are teaching a class of little people, urge upon them the acceptance of Christ now; if young people, find- out how many are Christians and you will find almost always th a t those who are Christians have been ta u g h t in th eir homes about God’s love and Christ’s death. Ask the older people when they accepted Christ and you will find th a t the bulk of them were converted before they were tw enty years old, and were th e children of Christian parents. A home th a t has a Christian fath e r and mother— th e real kind— is a healthy, happy home from which issue th e sterl ing young men and women whom God uses to sow y et other seed-|pthe seed of th e Word— into th e h earts of th eir own children (2 Tim. 3:16, 17): “ A ll s c r i p t u r e is g iv e n b y i n s p i r a t i o n o f G o d a n d i s p r o f it a b le f o r d o c t r in e , f o r r e p r o o f , f o r c o r r e c tio n , f o r i n s t r u c t i o n in r ig h te o u s n e s s } T h a t t h e m a n o f G o d m a y b e p e r f e c t, t h o r o u g h l y f u r n i s h e d u n t o a l l g o o d w o r k s .” PRACTICAL POINTS.
