A Shared Heritage
Go!s’ relationship with the Royal Dublin Society is a long one, reaching back to 25th August 1887 when Newbridge based auctioneer Robert J. Go! held a sale for the first time in the Simmonscourt Paddock. In 1899 those sales were relocated across from the main entrance, where the adjoining railway allowed horses to travel into Ballsbridge. The Royal Dublin Society Branch Railway remained open until September 1971. In 1973, the RDS sold the site occupied by Go!s to the Allied Irish Bank. The facilities had moved a long way from the makeshift sales ring in Simmonscourt and were by now a 477-box sales yard with a fully enclosed sales ring (completed in 1964). As a result of the sale, after almost 90 years of collaboration, Go!s went on to develop their world-acclaimed sales complex just 30 kms away in Co. Kildare. With such an important shared history, it is a pleasure for the Go!s team to conduct an auction at the RDS for the first time in over 50 years.
