Arkle

Arkle – three-time winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the iconic champion of Irish horse racing. The yard stick against which every subsequent National Hunt champion has been measured, Arkle was bought as a three-year-old on 4th August 1960 for 1,150gns by Tom Dreaper on behalf of the Duchess of Westminster. Flyingbolt – the one horse considered of comparable ability to Arkle. Winner of three di!erent Championship races at three consecutive Cheltenham festivals. Bought as a yearling in 1960 for 490 guineas. Red Rum – no horse in England has eclipsed the sheer celebrity of Red Rum. He won the Grand National in 1973, 1974 and 1977, and was runner -up in the two intervening years. Bred by Martyn McEnery of Rossenarra Stud and sold at the 1966 September Sales for 400gns to Mr. Tim Molony.
