All the doors that lead inward to the secret place of the Most High are doors outward—out of self, out of smallness, out of wrong.—M acdonald . 3. Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me. Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me. Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me. —A uthor U nknown . IV. R eflected and I nherent G lory After Moses had been with God on the mount, his face shone with so bright a glory that till the brightness began to fade away, men could not look on him. When Stephen spoke so eloquently before the council at Jerusalem in behalf of his Mas ter’s cause, “he . . . looked up stead fastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God,” and those that beheld him bore wit ness that they “saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.” We, too, may have the “glory of God” reflected on our faces as on Stephen’s, if we steadfastly look up into heaven. Only in his case and in ours, the glory is reflected from above, and in Christ’s case, it came from within. Let us keep near Him in the secret place, that our faces may shine with reflected luster» and then come down into the camp to let our light so shine that men may glorify the Uncreated Light at which it was kindled. —M aclaren . M editation on th e Lesson Offering to the believer freedom from worry—a victorious experience of peace and rest—this paragraph is one of the greatest passages in the Word. In the heart of this wonderful Sermon on the Mount, our Lord Jesus Christ dealt with our attitude toward the cares of this life. His. statement is startlingly significant: “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?” “Revolutionary, impossible!” do you say? “We must give some thought to what we are to eat and drink.” But the Greek word Christ used carries the idea: “Have no anxious thought” about these matters. What a delightful life we would all live if we followed these injunctions! Jesus gives us the key: “Your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.” Of course, He doesl Is He not our Creator? He knows us altogether: our weaknesses, our longings, our secret desires—and He longs to draw us unto Himself and show us that He can satisfy our every need (Phil. 4:19). He wants, our trust.
