Patrick, sepanjang perjalanan membina perniagaan Melaleuca, telah berjaya mengatasi dua halangan–ketika yang pertama menyaksikan beliau bangun selepas bercuti dua tahun akibat sebab peribadi, kali kedua lebih bermakna kerana beliau berusaha untuk berubah demi memajukan perniagaannya ke hadapan. Tanpa sebarang perkembangan selama 9 bulan, Patrick sedar bahawa beliau harus melihat semula pertumbuhan organisasinya dan menyempurnakan kemahiran kepimpinannya. Mujurlah, beliau mempunyai rakan perniagaan yang baik–Pengarah 7 Louis Tiong, Pengarah 3 Lawrence Soon, Pengarah 3 Ching Nguok Hiong dan Pengarah 2 Henry Wong, dan tahu dengan matlamat yang jelas dan strategi yang berkesan, pasukan itu dapat bergerak maju ke hadapan. “Mereka adalah penggerak dan pemacu organisasi saya, jadi saya menetapkan matlamat bersama mereka–sebagai contoh, untuk Louis mara ke status Pengarah Kanan pada Mac 2018, untuk Henry mencapai Anugerah Setengah Abad, dan sebagainya,” Patrick menerangkan. Patrick juga memastikan beliau melakukan apa yang beliau katakan dalam mengamalkan 7 Aktiviti Kritikal Pembinaan Perniagaan dan menguasai tiga aktiviti yang pertama. “Yang paling penting, saya harus

menunjukkan contoh yang baik dahulu. Jika saya mahukan konsistensi dalam pembina perniagaan saya menjalankan aktiviti harian mereka, saya perlu menunjukkan bahawa saya melakukan perkara yang sama–selalu memastikan saya mempunyai 200 nama pada senarai kenalan saya, menambah satu nama baru setiap hari, dan membuat 20 panggilan setiap minggu,” katanya, memastikan bahawa menerusi kepimpinannya, pembina perniagaannya mula melakukan perkara yang sama. Patrick juga menyedari bahawa beliau perlu mengubah cara beliau membuat susulan dengan para pelanggannya, dengan mengatakan bahawa dengan meletakkan pembina perniagaan dan pelanggannya dalam kumpulan sembang yang lebih kecil, ianya lebih berkesan. “Daripada menempatkan semua orang ke dalam kumpulan perbualan yang besar, saya membahagikan mereka menjadi kumpulan yang lebih kecil dan menghadkan bilangan orang dalam setiap kumpulan. Saya juga membantu pembina perniagaan saya membuat kumpulan sembang pelanggan mereka sendiri. Hasilnya sungguh mengejutkan–pelanggan lebih interaktif dan mendapat keyakinan dalam berkongsi pemikiran dan mengajukan soalan di dalam kumpulan sembang. Mungkin sifat pemalu menyebabkan mereka kurang berinteraktif,” katanya. Patrick juga mendapati bahawa ianya membantu menaikkan keyakinan pembina perniagaan barunya apabila beliau mendengar masalah dan pertanyaan mereka dengan segera. Menunjukkan bahawa beliau berada di sana untuk menyokong mereka, serta membantu membina keyakinan dan kepercayaan mereka kepada pasukan sokongan dan sistem syarikat. “Dengan adanya keyakinan, mereka akan mula mendekati pelanggan dan membawa mereka ke perjumpaan di rumah atau sesi pembentangan,” kongsinya. Menghadiri Majlis Standing Senior Leadership kali pertama tahun ini juga memperbaharui komitmennya dalam membangunkan perniagaan Melaleuca beliau. “Ia mengubah hidup saya. Saya belajar banyak daripada para pemimpin terutamanya bagaimana mereka membahagikan matlamat mereka ke dalam matlamat-matlamat yang lebih kecil, jadi mereka tahu berapa banyak usaha yang mereka perlu lakukan setiap hari untuk mencapai matlamat mereka dalam jangka masa yang ditetapkan untuk diri mereka,” kata Patrick. “Kejayaan boleh dicapai sekiranya kita sanggup berusaha untuknya. Kita hanya perlu mengingatkan diri kita bahawa tiada apapun yang akan diperolehi dengan hanya berpeluk tubuh,” Patrick menegaskan, mengumumkan bahawa beliau ingin mempunyai 1,000 orang Pelanggan Istimewa di dalam organisasi menjelang Mac 2018 dan menghadiri SSLC 2018 dengan Pengarah 7 Louis Tiong.

first three. “Before anything else, I had to set an example first. If I wanted consistency in my business builders carrying out their daily activities, I needed to show I was doing the same–always making sure I have 200 names on my contact list, adding one new name a day, and making 20 calls per week,” he states, ensuring that through his lead, his business builders started to do the same. Patrick also realized that he needed to change the way he followed up with his customers, saying that by putting his business builders and customers in smaller chat groups, it was more effective. “Instead of placing everyone into a large chat group, I split them into smaller groups and limited the number of people in each. I also helped my business builders create their own customer chat group. The result was surprisingly good–the customers were more interactive and found confidence in sharing thoughts and posting questions in the chat group. I think their initial reluctance to participate was due to their shy nature,” he comments. Patrick also found that it helps his new business builders’ confidence when he attends to their issues and queries promptly. Showing that he is there to support them helps build their confidence and trust in the support team and company’s system. “With confidence, they will start to make approaches and bring people to home parties or overviews,” Patrick shares. Attending the Standing Senior Leadership Council the first time this year also renewed his commitment in developing his Melaleuca business. “It was life-changing for me. I learnt so much from the leaders especially how they broke their goals down into smaller milestones, so they’d know how much effort they have to commit daily to achieve their goal within the timeframe they’ve set for themselves,” says Patrick. “Success is possible, but we must be willing to work for it. “Discontent is the first necessity of progress,” so said Thomas Edison and it was discontent that made Patrick Ling resolve to break out of his comfort zone the second time around, which resulted in his recent advancement to Senior Director 4 in October. Patrick, throughout the journey of building his Melaleuca business, have successfully overcame two hurdles–while the first saw him picking things up after a two-year break due to personal reasons, the second time was more meaningful as he made a conscious effort to change in order to move his business forward. With no progress for 9 months, Patrick knew he had to re- look at his organization growth and fine-tune his leadership skills. Fortunately, he had good business partners–Director 7 Louis Tiong, Director 3 Lawrence Soon, Director 3 Ching Nguok Hiong and Director 2 Henry Wong, and knew that with clear goals and effective strategizing, the team would be able to move ahead. “These are the movers and shakers of my organization, so I set goals with them–for example, for Louis to advance to Senior Director by March 2018, for Henry to achieve the Half Century Award, and so on,” Patrick explains. Patrick also ensured he walked the talk in practicing the 7 Critical Business Building Activities and in mastering the
