For years, Marie-Claire Ivanski gave her time and energy to help others, and make her community a better place to live. All her good deeds got their due, Saturday night, during the Russell Kin Club roast in her honour. “This woman has done so much for the community and is always the first to ask: ‘What can I do to help?’,” declared Doug Anthony, Kin Club event chairman. “This fundraiser (roast) proved exactly how much she does mean to our community and to so many individually.” Roasters fire up 5IFTUBHFGPSUIF/PWFNCFSGVOFWFOU XBTTFUVQBTBIBJSTBMPO i4BMPO:B:B :Bu XIFSFBMJUUMFGVOXBTQPLFEBU*WBOTLJT hair. There were lots of laughs but even more tears, both from Ivanski and the audience. She was welcomed with a pink-gloved flash mob audience during her entrance, with several standing ovations throughout the evening for the accomplishments in this fully community-invested woman’s life.

1JOLTVJUDMBE.BZPS1JFSSF-FSPVY .1 Francis Drouin, representatives of Victoria’s Quilts, the Canadian Cancer Society and others presented Ivanski with gifts and presentations. This audience, filled with family, friends and acquaintances, was loud and proud in expressing their love and pride for this amazing woman. A final video filled the hearts of everyone attending with such pride, it was deeply felt throughout the room. Party time Auctioneer John Rogers, a good friend of the Kin Club of Russell, riveted the audience with his outstanding live auction patter, selling off a variety of items provided by

La Ferme Drouin, à Casselman, a organisé une journée pour les grands et les petits dimanche dernier. Une vingtaine d’artisans de la région ont présenté leurs produits lors du marché de Noël, sous la grande tente. Les plus jeunes ont eu la chance de rencontrer le père Noël et de lui demander ce qu’ils souhaitaient pour Noël. Certains ont assisté à un spectacle de magie tandis que d’autres ont bravé le froid pour faire des tours de carriole tirée par les chevaux des frères Drouin. —photo Annie Lafortune

La Combattante , voilà le nom de la nouvelle bière qui a été brassée par Richard Ménard, propriétaire de la brasserie Étienne Brûlé à Embrun. Ébranlé par la mort de sa sœur Julie, décédée d’un cancer du sein, M. Ménard a tenu à s’impliquer pour cette cause. Il a donc dévoilé, le 13 novembre dernier, sa toute nouvelle création. Il a fait 1000 litres de cette bière, qui sert de collecte de fonds, puisque pour chaque bière en bouteille vendue, il versera 25 cents aux Amies pour la vie. Et pour chaque bière vendue en pression, un dollar sera également versé à l’organisme d’Embrun qui remettra, par la suite, la somme totale à la Société du cancer du sein.
