Tanner takes a leap towards the provincials

At the Easterns he competed in triple jump, high jump and the sprint hurdles but had the most confi- dence that he would leap to success in the triple jump. He scored a 12.36-metre jump, just a bit short of his personal best of 12.48 metres earlier in May at EOSSAA. “I’m going to try for 12.7 at OFSSA,” Van Every said. “That’s a pretty big leap, but I think I can do it.” Also competing for RDHS at the Easterns
was Matt Rossi in senior boys 100-metre sprint. He finished eighth in the finals with 11.56 seconds. Gabrielle Campeau re- presented Hammond’s St. Francis Xavier Ca- tholic High School in senior girls 200-metre and 400-metre. She finished seventh in the 200 in 26.33 seconds and fifth in the 400 in 1:00.47 minutes. L’Escale’s Jonathan Favero finished fifth in senior boys 1500-metre in 3:59.46 minutes and eighth in 3000-metre in 9:03.56 minutes. Also competing at the Easterns from the Prescott-Russell region were Jacob Brise- bois of École secondaire de Plantagenet in the junior triple jump and Rhys Thomas of Russell High School in the senior boys 800-metre. Brisebois landed in sixth place with an 11.9-metre leap while Thomas fi- nished fifth in 1:59.63 minutes.

OTTAWA | One last giant leap has landed Tanner Van Every his chance for a provin- cial medal. The Rockland District High School junior (RDHS) nailed the second-place spot in triple jump for his division at the Eastern Regionals track and field meet in Ottawa last Friday. The top two athletes in each event at the Easterns go on to the Ontario Federation of Secondary School Athletics

RUSC mines Icebreaker gold
Ottawa | Rockland’s young soccer players are striking it rich in Ottawa. The Rockland United Soccer Club (RUSC) U13 boys and U15 boys teams walked off the soccer field with gold-medal wins in the Ottawa Internationals Icebreaker Tourna- ment over the May 31 weekend. The U13s rallied for a come-from-behind effort as they had to play extra games to get into the playoffs. They had the satisfaction of beating out
