MUSIC

After joining DC in Year 7, I was keen to get involved in the Music Department. I got my chance when Mr Ludford-Thomas picked me out of Concert Choir to audition for Chapel Choir. Since then, I’ve loved everything I’ve been involved in musically through the years, from being put forward for and performing in a National Opera production of The Magic Flute to performing ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ at the Leavers’ Concert with a friend. DC Music has provided me with an incredible array of opportunities, which I’ve been most grateful to take. Particular highlights include the USA tour in Year 12, which was amazing in every sense, musically, socially and from a tourist perspective too (as it’s one thing to go to the National

Cathedral and another to sing in it!); and our self-formed and self-run close harmony a cappella group Original Copy, with Joe Giles, Chy Hylton and Jonathan Pratt. Although we were self-run, the Music Department has been really helpful, getting us concerts at various functions and weddings, and providing us with invaluable experience. Personally, my bond with the Music Department has been amazing, and I didn’t feel like just another chorister to fill in the choir or another student to my music teachers but rather an individual, developing musician, to whom they were keen to give all the keys and knowledge to succeed musically under any circumstances. Music at the College has provided me with unforgettable memories for life.
