MUSIC

I have really enjoyed leading the Symphony Orchestra and having the opportunity to perform in major concert venues. The highlight was performing in Washington Cathedral.

Leaving on a positive note

Through my time at the College, my voice and confidence have evolved as I have changed from a treble who would get stage fright to a baritone who recently sang lead in the winning House Part Song. The support I received from the Music Department has been unwavering. I suppose my favourite time at the College has been the hours on end of carols and descants in which the basses would somehow become countertenors in order to re-live their treble days in the choir. In my many years at the College, I have been fortunate enough to experience the huge variety of opportunities that the Music Department has provided. From performing in the Foundation Schools’ Orchestra to performing on my sax at the Hideaway, I have found that I have really been able to grow as a musician, particularly with the help of the wonderful music staff. Ashley Austin There have been so many highlights in my seven years at Dulwich. Playing in the Grease band for the Upper School production, lifting the House Music trophy and especially the USA tour. Joseph Giles Over the last 11 years, I have had so much fun being involved in music at the College. House Music, Alleynian Blues and the Concerto Concert have been highlights over the last year, but for the last 10 years everything from Chapel Choir to Symphony Orchestra has been so perfect and I am thankful to all the music staff. From Chapel Choir to Alleynian Blues, from Symphony Orchestra to the Jazz Band, music in its many forms is a central part of College life. Here, Year 13 leavers who have played key roles in the musical life of the College share some of their most significant memories Through my seven years at DC, I’ve loved my time performing at Southwark for the Carol Concerts. The Music Department’s tireless work is greatly appreciated. Toby Bailey In my time at the College, I have greatly enjoyed the facilities but even more the sincere support of all the staff who have helped me along my journey. Regardless of my level of playing, the music staff have always been warm and friendly and encouraged a positive attitude, for which I am deeply grateful. I will always remember my musical roots at Dulwich and the positive effect it had on me. Danny Piers
