were determined s t u d e n t s of the Word. 2. Power through spiritual f fellow ship. , T h e r e is no substitute for Christian fellowship. One of the means of grace is the communion of the saints, and without this blessed fellowship, spiritual growth' in -power is hindered. John 20:24 is one of the saddest texts in Scripture, in this passage we are told that “Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.” Thomas missed the sublime blessing of fellowship with the risen Son of God on the first night after His res-, urrection, and he missed all the bene fits of assurance of that resùrrection- for the space of a whole week. Many are the blessings which are withheld from the people of God because they absent themselves -from the house of prayer during its regular services. 3. Power through partaking of the Lord’s Supper. The sacrament called “The Lord’s Supper” was instituted by our Lord oh the night of His be trayal as a rmemorial feast to be observed in memory of His death and His coming again (Lk. 22:19, 20; 1 Cor. 11:20-34; cf. R. VO. 4. Power through prayer. Astrono my teaches us that some planets are cold and icy while others are great balls of heat. Why is this? The an swer is simple: . The. planets which are nearest the sun are the onés that blaze and whose speed is great; the planets farthest from the sun are cold and comparatively slow. Do we want blazing hearts of loye for God, His Son,. His Word, His people, and His work? Do we desire to have feet that are swift to take the message of re deeming grace? Then let us live close to the heart of the Son and learn how to draw near to the Father in prayer. II. POWER THROUGH LOVE OF THE BRETHREN (vS. 44, 45). God’s power will never be seen in the service of those who do hot serve out of loye to the Lord and love for His people. John, the beloved dis ciple, tells us, “If a man say, I Iqve God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar” (1 John 4:20). The love of Christ constrains us to be good ambassadors and to allow the power of the Holy Spirit to flow from bur lives. III. POWER THROUGH UNITY OF PURPOSE AND GLADNESS 'AND SINGLENESS OF HEART '(v. 46). A cooperative spirit With unity of purpose is another spiritual law to be observed for power of life and tes timony. Isolationism, individualism, and independency have no place in a Christian’s life if he would have pow er in his service for the church of Jesus Christ. Thè greatest work is done when all Christians work togeth er with one accord and with gladness and singleness of heart.

For the Leader Emphasize the fact that the first step in power for the individual is. to r e c e i v e the Word (v. 41). Peter preached about the death of Christ, the resurrection and ascension of Christ, and a b o u t the Lordship of Christ (Acts 2:22-36). These'cardinal truths o f .the Word of God must be personally appropriated, and then the spiritual laws suggested in the lesson may be applied. APRIL 26, 1942 THE CHURCH MARCHES ON TO TRIUMPH I saiah 60:1-5; M ark 4:30-32 By Kermit L. Byrd ' Introduction As we view the visible church of the Lord Jesus Christ on earth today, we find a mingling of worldliness and weakness in iftany phases of her life. At times, we may wonder how the t e r m “triumph” can be associated with a movement that still, falls far short of its true aims. It is then that we need to see that God has foretold this very condition, but that He has promised Ultimate triumph. Victory is centered wholly in the church’s living Head, the Lord' Jesus Christ. For Those Who Have Topics I. SCRIPTURES DISCUSSED. 1. Isaiah 60:1-5. a. Light is described- as coming to Zion (vs. 1, 2). “Zion” as described in the Old Testament prophets, is not primarily the church, but is a term connected with a hill in Jerusalem and- this with the restored nation of Israel and the promised Messianic kingdom. The church, however, is to have a part in Christ’s thousand-year reign on earth, for believers are to reign as kings and priests with Christ
