Beta testing of EDGE started in winter 2022 with students in two intro-level classes. Most students completed the Trail Blazer badge, which is the perfect jumpstart to EDGE, as each activity in the badge guides students from downloading the app to earning points by attending events. In spring 2022, a class of seniors joined the beta-testing group to earn the Excellence in Leadership badge created by Dr. James Avey, a management professor. The badge is the co-curricular component of Avey’s leadership capstone course which challenges students to work in teams to lead their own capstone projects and serve a community of their choice. They document their project with a video. When seniors complete the badge, they can share their leadership experience and videos with potential employers through their EDGE e-portfolios. College of Business Student Ambassador Desiree Malone has been a beta tester for the past year and has had a chance to use the program and learn how it works. “The reason I like the platform is that it makes it very easy for students to find any events that are coming up and what the events are,” said Malone.
EDGE has made it a lot easier to plan out what events she can attend, Malone added. Students can input events months in advance so they can easily see what events are coming up and plan accordingly. The college is working with campus partners including clubs, Career Services, SLICE (Student Leadership, In - volvement, and Community Engagement), the Diversity & Equity Center (DEC), and CWU Libraries to enrich the EDGE program contents. EDGE will launch a full pilot to all CB students in fall 2022, officially becoming part of the CB ex - perience, which students will remember as they engage with the various CWU communities and alumni across careers and industry sectors.
