through their paces, mixing strict Old World discipline with his own quirky Russian sense of humour. “Mr. Petrov was absolutely amazing,” said Hélène Tassie. “It was a highlight of my ca- reer, as a dance instructor, to have this icon of the ballet world in our studio.” Petrov was on tour, courtesy of the Otta- wa Ballet Society, holding workshops with various ballet and dance schools, both large and small. Tassie said Rockland was lucky to have a chance to host the Russian master for both a morning and an afternoon of in- struction sessions. “Having a superstar of the ballet world come into our studio in Rockland is of great significance to our community. Our stu- dents are able to follow this internationally- renowned choreographer because of their
years of dedicated ballet training. The in- structors from Extrava Danse hope that our students will deepen their love for dance and acquire some of the beautiful Russian style with its ease of movement, elevation in jumps, and exceptional grace.”
One Extrava Danse senior dancer, Sophie Lavoie, received special coaching from Petrov for her role as the Sugar Plum Fairy in the academy’s upcoming production of The Nutcracker, Dec. 15, at the Salle de specta- cle Optimiste Performance Hall.
