The third biennial Association of Electrical Wholesalers (AEW) Awards Lunch was held at the Clayton Hotel in Liffey Valley, Dublin with broadcaster Des Cahill returning as host. A fantastic turnout from all AEW members ensured a great atmosphere in the Pegasus Suite, with almost 100 people enjoying a delicious three-course lunch. AEW Administrator Ken Legros kicked off the event by congratulating all award winners in advance and thanking the AEW Committee for its unwavering support over the last number of years, in particular, Mark McCluggage, Stephen Connolly, Michelle Lynch, Martin Hand, Barry Dunne, Colum Lee, Cormac Kavanagh, Fergal McStay, Noel Simpson, Cliff Elliott, Dermot Gilmartin and Tommy Parker. Following a short video on the work of WEEE Ireland, the WEEE Recycling Awards were presented before lunch by CEO Leo Donovan. This was WEEE Ireland’s third time sponsoring this event and AEW is deeply indebted for its support. Awards were presented for the Best Performing Branch and the Most Improved Branch in each of AEW’s six member categories. Two special awards were presented to the Best Performing Group within AEW, which was won by CEF, and to the Best Branch for WEEE Handling and Presentation, which was won by Euro Sales Glasnevin. WEEE Ireland was also represented at the lunch by Laurence Kieran, Tony Murphy and Kieran Costelloe. After lunch, Des Cahill welcomed Paul Noonan and Dan Fisher on stage for an update on the latest developments with the Irish Electrical Benevolent Association (IEBA). electrical industry for many years, who suffered a life-changing brain injury in an incident at Anfield in 2018. In the video, Sean’s wife Martina explained how IEBA had been one of the first organisations to come to the financial aid of the Cox family. Paul and Dan thanked everyone for their continued support of IEBA’s flagship fundraising events, the IEBA Ball and Dash of the Derg. Paul also spoke about their new initiative, the IEBA Ambassador Programme, which is seeking volunteers in AEW branches as a point of contact for anyone in the industry who may need financial assistance. The Staff Training Awards were sponsored for a second time by Ei Electronics in Shannon, and Des Cahill welcomed CEO Leo Clancy on stage to present the awards, along with Margaret Fitzsimons of EDA, whose 12 training modules are the basis for this staff training programme. All this year’s winners have completed multiple modules over the past year, with three learners – Cathy Keenaghan and
Cian O’Hare, both of Eastern Electrical Mullingar, and Lauren Homan of EWL, Cork – having completed all 12 modules, a fantastic achievement. Ei Electronics was also represented at the lunch by Eric Duignan, Ciara McInerney and Sean Meally. The Lifetime Achievement Award was then presented to Peadar Conlon of Mullingar Electrical in recognition of his dedicated service to the AEW in the past and his continued support of the EIGSI to the present day. Peadar has been a popular figure in the industry for almost 50 years, and AEW wishes him well in his retirement. The event concluded with a special presentation to Ken Legros by Mark McCluggage of CEF to celebrate Ken’s final year with the AEW, as he too is retiring at the end of 2026.
