I finished college a year early with two degrees, then earned my Master’s degree while working full-time. Most recently, I am working to earn a variety of sustainability cer- tifications to help educate our customers on ESG. Education has always been very impor - tant to me. What is your most notable project, deal or transac- tion? Expanding our sustainability division and growing in ESG using our expertise in the energy and efficiency space has been so rewarding. For example, our LED parking lot lighting upgrades not only improve the customer’s car - bon footprint and bottom-line energy spend, but also help to reduce light pollution, which keeps the night sky starry and beautiful, lessens the impact to nocturnal wildlife, and helps migratory birds stay on course.
growing my own vegetables, and generally anything out- doors. I am very passionate about wildlife and habitat conservation, especially native plants, fungi, and wildlife. What inspiring word of advice would you give to a young executive graduat- ing from college? Sign up for everything you can. All of it - meetings, semi- nars, conferences, volunteer to take on projects. Take every test and earn every certification you can. Educate yourself in every way possible. I graduated college at the age of 20, finished grad school at 24, and became a manager at age 26. At such a young age, it can be hard to be taken seriously, but when you put in the work, you earn cred- ibility with your knowledge and expertise. MAREJ
most unique situation you have faced / conquered during your career? Or in your life? I accepted my offer of em - ployment while boarding a plane to Vegas! My motto is to live life to the fullest, and then some. I flew into Vegas, rented a convertible, and drove to Grand Canyon National Park, then spent a few days explor - ing Las Vegas, Red Rock Can - yon, and Boulder City. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I never understood how something could take your breath away until I saw the Grand Canyon at sunrise. What outside activities do you enjoy during you free time? I enjoy trail running with my border collie, hiking, camping, fishing, geocaching,
I am proud to be a part of the sustainability movement. How do you contribute to your company and / or the industry? The best part about my job is that I contribute to my com- pany, the industry, and our planet. I manage electric and natural gas procurement with an emphasis on renewables
and green options in conjunc - tion with our energy efficiency projects, and support action on climate change such as man- datory reporting and bench - marking. My background is in natural gas for large commer- cial and industrial customers, so it has been an exciting way to learn and grow. What is the funniest,
