All Roads Lead to Home

We used to think life as empty nesters would allow us to go on more adventures while the kids were off creating memories of their own. However, I’m no longer sure who we are without our kids, as keeping them close has always been one of our top priorities. I’m not saying the kids are going to leave us in the dust. They have individual lives to make for themselves. But how can Marjorie and I maintain that closeness, family time, and daily communication with the kids when they are busy on their own paths? What I’ve realized is that the next big adventure in my life is relearning who the Dellutris are as a family in the midst of changing seasons. The older I get, the less responsibility I have when it comes to raising the kids, but all I want to do is pull back and savor the time spent with them. In today’s world, we are easily connected by social media, but I don’t want to watch my kids’ lives develop over Facebook or Instagram. I want to be a part of their lives. It’s funny to realize that Marjorie and I never anticipated how we would feel during this time in our lives. And you know what? We don’t know what the next 20 years will hold. But we do know this: We want our lives to be centered around our kids, and we are so excited to watch them on their roads as they grow into the men and women they were destined to become.

Our daughter Alyssa will graduate from high school next year and most likely will move away to attend college. Alyssa is extremely bright, and she’s one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. My wife Marjorie and I are excited for this next stage of her life, and we are honored that she wants to visit several college campuses with us this summer. After Alyssa leaves, our household will shrink again, and Nicholas will be our only child at home. At that same time, Nicholas will be heading to high school, which means he will thankfully be with us for a few more years. But after he’s gone to college, Marjorie and I will officially be empty nesters. Our 20th wedding anniversary is coming up quickly. When I look back on the past 20 years, it’s amazing to see where life has taken us and consider the memories we’ve made together as a family. It makes me wonder what the next 20 years will hold for us.

Thinking about the next chapter of our lives, I am certain of only two things. One is that I will strive to continue playing a fundamental part in the Dellutri Law Group’s growth. The other is that I will keep doing my best to take care of my family. When Marjorie and I were younger, we had a vision of what our life might look like after all the kids moved out of the house. But now that we are entering that phase of life, we aren’t so sure anymore. While Marjorie and I are cruising through life on our familiar road, it feels as though our kids have veered off to start their own journeys down separate highways. To tell you the truth, it’s a little jarring. Our oldest daughter is a nurse practitioner, married, with a child of her own. Our second is finishing his college degree and moving into post-college life. Our third will enter college soon, and the last will begin his high school years.

How Social Media Can Hurt

a Personal Injury Lawsuit

CAN SOCIAL MEDIA HURT MY LAWSUIT?

It depends. If you haven’t been posting information about your case, such as status updates and pictures, then you probably don’t have anything to worry about. However, this isn’t the case for some people, and social media can actually hurt their lawsuit. You typically don’t post pictures of yourself lying on the couch, sleeping, or doing nothing at all. Instead, you post pictures when you’re out with friends, on vacation, outdoors, at parties, or at social functions. So, if you’re claiming that you suffered a serious back injury after a slip and fall, but you just posted a picture of yourself skiing on vacation, there could be some questions in the minds of the opposing counsel and jury. There might be plenty of legitimate explanations for why you were out skiing that day, but do you really want to roll the dice and explain the ski trip in front of a jury?

In addition to photographs, other things you post can also hurt you in court — if they’re admissible, of course. Posts that reflect poorly on your character aren’t always admissible in a personal injury lawsuit. Although these are just hypothetical examples, there have been cases in which social media has impacted a personal injury case, such as in Nucci v. Target Corp.

If you’re involved in a personal injury lawsuit, it’s important that you avoid using social media as much as possible while your lawsuit is pending. Also, consider pulling your existing social media sites down entirely, at least while your lawsuit is in progress. If you insist on maintaining an active social media presence during your lawsuit, make sure you carefully monitor what you post and what other people post about you.

HERE’S WHAT OUR CLIENTS HAVE TO SAY:

“Carmen offered invaluable information, resources and actions, and he never charged me for any of our consultation sessions. He even reviewed fiscal documents without remuneration. I have never met a lawyer who was as helpful or trustworthy as Mr. Dellutri. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing help navigating bankruptcy or collections. Read his e-books and reach out for help!”

“The whole staff treated my wife and me with the greatest respect. They answered all of our questions and concerns very fast. They made the whole process easy. And they helped us get through this difficult situation with very little stress. I am so fortunate to have found such a great firm to represent me. Thank you for working so hard for me and my family!”

Small-Business Spotlight

RIVERVIEW WOMAN’S CLUB

The Riverview Woman’s Club is a nonprofit organization located on the outskirts of Tampa whose mission is to provide scholarships to Riverview students, support educational needs in the community, and identify and support community outreach. But not only that, the Riverview Women’s Club is a group that comes together for three main purposes: friendship, community, and, most importantly, philanthropy! Each month, there is a meeting where members and guests are welcome to come to network and be a part of the growing chapter! The meetings always include a highlighted speaker who takes their time to educate the members on their philanthropy, business, or topic that they are an expert in. “The speakers are a great addition to the meetings. I always walk away motivated to give back to my community or implement the topics into my own business,” says Heather Michael, a club director since 2017 and hairstylist at Salon Jennifer and Company.

Surrounding the community involvement sprouts an even greater message that the Riverview Woman’s Club sends out to the youth, and that is the importance of education! Since 2013, Riverview Woman’s Club has awarded $21,500 in scholarships to deserving students in the surrounding areas. This gives students the motivation to do better in school and a chance to achieve greatness! Represented by the pink rose, which connotes elegance and grace, which is used to convey gentle emotions such as admiration, joy, and gratitude, the Riverview Woman’s Club stays true to those values. Membership is always open to any woman over 18 years old living in Riverview or the surrounding communities who wants to make a difference in her community. One thing all members have in common is their desire to make a difference — something that lasts for a lifetime.

Braised Chicken and Spring Vegetables

You may remember Allison from our March 2017 edition of the newsletter, when she was introduced as our intern from Florida Gulf Coast University who had decided to make Dellutri Law Group her home base while finishing college. Since then, a lot has changed! Allison finished her bachelor’s degree in communications and graduated in May of 2017, but before she left home for Tampa, Carmen had one last challenge for

Ingredients • 1 tablespoon olive oil

• 1 tablespoon sugar • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped • Salt and pepper

• 8 small bone-in chicken thighs • 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth • 12 radishes, halved • 4 large carrots, cut into sticks

Directions 1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. 2. Season the chicken with salt and pepper. Brown in pan for 6–7 minutes per side. 3. Remove chicken from pan and scrape off excess fat. Add broth and stir in radishes, carrots, and sugar. 4. Return chicken to pan, placing on top of vegetables. Gently simmer with lid on pan for 15–20 minutes. Finish with chives.

her. “I remember Carmen sitting me down and saying, ‘Are you up for the challenge of helping launch Dellutri Law Group Tampa?’ My jaw nearly hit the floor! I couldn’t believe I was going to have the opportunity to take Dellutri to the next level. I literally couldn’t say yes fast enough!” We are excited to have Allison in Tampa helping with the launch of our new office, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.

3 Herbal Teas to Boost Your Health

THE POWER OF HERBAL TEAS

For centuries, people around the globe have relied on the power of herbal tea. Today, there are more herbal teas on the market than ever before. Finding a flavorful tea that also offers the right health benefits can be a challenge. Here are three varieties of herbal tea that are among the best of the best, both in flavor and healing power. LAVENDER TEA For some people, lavender tea is great for reducing headaches, arthritis pain, and general joint aches and pains. For others, however, it improves sleep. Lavender tea is often recommended to people who suffer from insomnia or who have trouble falling asleep. Drink some before bed and let it do the rest. It helps you feel relaxed and eases you into the Land of Nod. The flowery flavor isn’t for everyone, but if you’re looking for a natural sleep aid, it’s worth trying. If the flavor proves too strong, a great alternative is chamomile, which shares many of the same properties as lavender tea. PEPPERMINT TEA It’s no surprise this is one of the most popular herbal teas around. Thanks to its not-so-subtle aroma and natural sweetness, it delivers on flavor and packs a healthy punch. Peppermint tea is known for its ability to aid in digestion. Plus, it works wonders on stomach inflammation, alleviating everything from minor aches to nausea.

ROOIBOS TEA A South African tea, rooibos is noted for its high levels of vitamin C and antioxidants. If you’re looking for an immune system boost, rooibos is here to help. Thanks to its antioxidant powers, it’s also great for the skin. Stressed out? Anxious? Have a cup of rooibos tea. It helps ease stress and lowers blood pressure. Furthermore, rooibos tea lacks oxalic acid, an organic compound that plays a role in the formation of kidney stones. If you’re prone to kidney stones but love tea, rooibos may be the answer.
