Come celebrate Doors Open Champlain day
Higginson Tower, the Bruce Barton Fire Hall, the Champlain Township Public Library, The Review newspaper building, the Vankleek Hill Museum, Église Saint-Grégoire, Arbor Gallery, the former Dr. McIntyre’s house (now owned by André Martel and Renée Malette), the Garden Path Homemade Soap company, Trinity United Church, the Stone House B & B, and the Cranberry House B & B. Details about the locations and some of the features of each of these heritage build- ing sites, and about the other special events taking place in the township on Doors Open Champlain day is available online at www. champlainheritage.com or through the township website at www.champlain.ca. Brochures which serve also as maps are available at dozens of area locations in the township. The brochure includes a “People’s Choice Award” ballot for nominating per- sonal favourite sites.

The welcome mat is out for visitors all over Champlain Township for Doors Open Champlain. The township is proud of its cultural and historical heritages so 20 local heritage sites will throw open their doors to the public on Saturday, Sept. 28, and offer an extra- special welcome to both locals and visitors curious about what’s inside. This special celebration is thanks to a partnership between the township and the Ontario Heritage Trust. Besides invitingpeople in for on-site tours, at no charge, of special heritage buildings and cultural facilities, there will also be a va- riety of special events, art shows, live music concerts and other activities and entertain- ment throughout the day. The weekend celebration of local heritage and culture also features two extra special treats for visitors. Riverest in L’Orignal, a historic Regency period-style stone home, will be open for visitors to wander through. Also available for tours during the day is the Higginson Round Barn, which is located on Highway 34. Other locations open for the one-day event include: Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste, L’Orignal Old Jail, the Marcel Huneault Fire Hall, the historic Cassburn one-roomschool, and the Cassburn cemetery, Cassburn Unit- ed Church, Knox Presbyterian Church, the Les patients diabétiques ont droit à un examen des pieds offert par la Clinique de diabète de l’Hôpital Général de Hawkes- bury et District (HGH) le 19 septembre et le 29 octobre entre 8h30 et 11h30, à la Clinique de diabète de l’HGH.
