Bible Institute FAMILY CIRCLE lit Other Educational Institutions Grace Theological Seminary, Wi­ nona Lake, Ind., includes on the ros­ ter of its faculty several who were formerly identified with the Bible In­ stitute of Los Angeles, as member of either its faculty or its student body. Alva J. McClain, President; of Grace Theological Seminary, tatight Bible Doctrine and Church History at thè Institute from 1927 to 1929, and in 1940 received the’degree of Doctor of; Divinity from the Institute. Mabel Crawford, ’27, teaches French- and Sango at the Seminary; Homer A. Kent, ’18, is Professor of Church His­ tory and Practical Theology, and Leo Polman, ’22, is Instructor in Church Music. Alice Foote, ’32, John and Mrs. Haw­ thorne, and Arrie Rouintree, ’34,'were scheduled to sail July 25 from New. Orleans, La., for sefvice in Bolivia, S. A., under the Bolivian Indian Mis­ sion. Isa­ belle Wiker, ’27), who were married in July, plan to be at home to friends after September 1 at 1838 S. Orange Dr., Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs. Moyer spent six. years in full-time work •ámong ,Los Angeles Japanese in a cénter on San Pedro Street^ under the Reformed Board. More recently she worked in the Hollywood' Japanese Presbyterian Church. Now that many of the Japanese young people to whom she ministered are in various assem­ bly centers, she keeps in touch with them by correspondence and is re- joicirig in their endeavors to witness for Christ. With the Lord Word has been received of the death of Carl Aldinger, ’19,. on July 19, in Los Angeles, Calif. Berta B. Dyer, T8, went to be “with Christ” on July 21, after a long illness. In former years she had. served as a church visitor in the Church of the Open Door. At one! time she had charge of the Home Department in the church and also conducted many home Bible classes for children.

Allison Selway,' ’38, was graduated from the University of Redlands on May 24, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. Edwin E. Cory, ’33, has be&n attend­ ing Westmont College, Los Angeles, Calif. Hermine Seklemian, ’41, was en­ rolled for the past school year at the Missionary Training Institute at Nyack, N. Y. Earl S. Kalland (B. Th. ’36) on May 26 received the degree of Doctor- of Theology from Go r d o n D i v i n i t y School, Gordon College of Theology arid Missions. The graduating exer­ cises were held in the Park Street Church, Boston, Mass. The subject of Dr. Kalland’s thesis was “The Deity of the Old Testament Messiah.” Dr. Kalland previously had received the degree of Bachelor of Divinity from Gordon Divinity School. He has been called to the pastorate of the First. Baptist Church, Stevenson and N. Elmer Streets, Sayre, Pa., arid was scheduled to undertake his new duties early in August. Sailings and Arrivals Eugene (’28) and Mrs. Crapuchettes (Winifred Kopp, ’28) and their four children have returned to trie United: States from service under the China Inland Mission iri southwest China, coming by way of India. They can be addressed at 404 S. 32nd Ave., Yakima, Wash. Harold M. (*29) and Mrs. Coen (Elia Penner, ’29) have returned from Africa and were scheduled, to stop at the Canadian Keswick in Ontario on their way home. Mail can be addressed in care of 151 E. Wooster, Bowling Green, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Coen are members of the Sudan Interior Mission. They have two children.

Students enrolled in the four-year courses at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles now may seek to qualify for membership in Phi Alpha Chi, na­ tional honor society, with, the recent establishment of a chapter at the In­ stitute. Planned originally for. sem­ inaries and four-year .Christian col­ leges only, the organization can admit students of only the four-year courses at Biola. Headquarters of Phi Alpha Chi have been established at Gordon College of Theology and Missiohs, Bos­ ton, Mass. Membership is attained upon an academic honor basis, and an ap­ proved Standard ,is required. Three members of the 1942 class at Biola were elected to membership: James Christian, Géraldine Hamlett, and Ed­ ward Schellenberg. Here and There John E. Clay, ’40, was graduated from the Air Force Advanced Flying School at Stockton Field, Calif., on July 26 and has attained the rank of second lieutenant. Evelyn Pyeritz, ’22, who has been serving at Ganadp, Ariz., among Navajo Indians under the Presbyterian Board of National Missions, called at the Institute on July 17. After her va­ cation she was scheduled to take up work u n d e r the same board among Mono Indians at North Fork, Calif., where she was asked to have charge of One of the. dormitories. Charles R. Girton, ’42, was ordained to the gospel ministry on June 19, at the Milton Baptist Church, Milton, Ore. Fred J. Green, ’25, is pastor of the church.
