The 15th annual breakfast was the largest in the chapter’s history ACE Mentor Program awards $48,000 in scholarships at Annual Breakfast guished Mentor Award.

P HILADELPHIA, PA — The ACE Mentor Program of Eastern Pennsylvania hosted 460 members of the architecture, engineering, and construction communities at the Crystal Tea Room for an annual recog- nition of industry leaders and announcement of scholarships. Three industry awards were presented and nine scholar- ships totaling $48,000 for re- gional high school students were announced at the ACE Mentor Program of Eastern Pennsylvania 2016 Scholarship Breakfast, Wednesday, May 11 at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia. The 15th annual breakfast was the largest in the chapter’s history, attracting 460 members of the design and construction community. “As our primary fundraiser, the annual scholarship break- fast supports the program and our students,” said ACE Men- tor Program Eastern Pennsyl- vania Affiliate Director Tif- fanyMillner, AIA, NOMA . “It also provides our biggest forum for attracting new mentors.” ACE Eastern Pennsylva- nia presented three indus- try leadership awards. The Finishing Trades Institute of the Mid-Atlantic Region was recognized as Organization of the Year. The King of Prussia Mall Expansion was honored as Suburban Project of the Year. New College House at the University of Pennsylvania received the Urban Project of the Year Award. Nine scholarships totaling $48,000 were awarded to ACE Mentor Program high school student participants during the breakfast program. ACE alumnus Annina Baker, currently a junior mechanical engineering student Villanova University, spoke about how her experience in the ACE Mentor Program shaped her pursuit of an engineering ca- reer and made a meaningful impact on her future. “Being able to learn from and work with professional engineers, contractors, and ar- chitects gave me great insight into their careers, and helped me decide on my own career path,” Baker said. struction, and Engineering, ACE engages, excites, and en- lightens high school students to consider or pursue careers in the integrated construction industry through mentoring, scholarships, and grants. Stu- dents are recruited from public and private high schools in greater Philadelphia, with special efforts made to reach traditionally underrepresented women and minorities. As the design and construction in- dustry’s fastest-growing high school mentoring program, ACE reaches over 8,000 stu- dents annually. n

The ACE Mentor Program Eastern Pennsylvania Affili- ate supported 11 city teams and five suburban teams for the 2015-2016 academic year, serving 250 total students from 36 different high schools. More than 128 professional mentors were involved, representing 72 firms in the architecture, engineering, and construction community.
