Arkwright Scholarship Award Three pupils in the Remove are to be congratulated after being awarded the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship during the summer holiday. Ben, Nick and Tim all successfully submitted a strong application before passing a difficult theory exam at the beginning of 2018. They went on to have an interview at one of a selection of engineering universities of their choice. Each pupil has now been sponsored by an engineering company who offers support through a £600 award and a personal mentor. Where appropriate, the company will give advice and in some cases offer work experience to improve their sponsor’s understanding of the engineering sector. Through Arkwright, the pupils have the opportunity to meet other scholars and build a network of similarly minded and able people that could form an invaluable network in the future.

Learning engineering workshop skills in Engineers Club.

Engineers Club In Engineers Club, students from Years 8-10 learn to use different engineering processes through making products. The pupils are given a design task and work in teams to problem solve and create their products according to certain criteria. Along the way they learn engineering workshop skills and an in-depth knowledge of 3D CAD and 3D printing. Currently, they are designing a portable hammock and will be looking at further projects later this year. Community service in DT IDCDT have been involved with designing and manufacturing several products for the College and its environments. Their first project was to replace the ‘Kindness Tree’ in the Junior School with a new, wooden version. This was a successful outcome which is in daily use. They also manufactured the Christmas signage for the Friends of Dulwich grotto, and some beautiful brass paperweights for the Open Day outdoor stands. They are currently renovating an antique sewing machine cover. Each week, Year 7 children gather to practise their woodworking skills to make exciting projects. So

Year 8 pupils’ poppies raised over £800 last year.

‘The Arkwright process has been such a rewarding experience - for all the effort you have to put in at the outset, the opportunities, contacts and benefits have made every minute of the process exceedingly worthwhile.’ Ollie, Year 13
