‘Mr Khan, the College’s Music Production and Sound Engineer, is an expert in studio techniques and the Music Technology clubs provide access to high quality digital audio workstations. His valuable expertise and knowledge is readily available to all boys at the College.’ Simon, Year 12 There are regular music workshops for Y7-9. These encourage free learning and provide opportunities for pupils to broaden their experiences of live music. In the summer of 2018 RSC professional composer Sophie Cotton visited the Lower School once to present a workshop on the job of writing for theatre, and a Steel Pan Workshop for Year 7 pupils provided the opportunity to play some Caribbean music. Our Performance Studies course explores the art of music performance for Remove boys allowing opportunities for professional coaching and accompaniment with a pianist for advanced players and singers; conducting workshops; professional masterclasses; creating a media profile, studio production and recording; a study project based on your instrument/voice; solo and ensemble performance and performance direction; an introduction to Alexander technique; programme planning and notes, stagecraft, deportment, managing nerves and communication; aspects of historically informed performance. Courses are individually tailored to meet the needs of individual performers and singers.

‘The composition competition was an enlightening experience that gave an insight into the world of a professional composer. It was thoroughly entertaining and informative for all those involved, and it was very valuable to hear what professional composer Brandon Goff thought of our music.’ Louie, Year 13 Each year the Composition Competition takes place in the Lent term and in 2018 this was adjudicated by the distinguished composer Brandon Goff, who is Associate Professor of Music Industry at Francis Marion University, South Carolina. The state-of-the art iMac suites provide unrivalled opportunities for pupils to explore how technology and studio production are applied to film and other contemporary music. Composing and Technology We are fortunate to have Cecilia McDowall, a composer of international reputation, as our Visiting Composer. Cecilia makes frequent visits to the College and is able to provide one-to-one supervision to students at GCSE, AS and A2 level. She has also given a number of fascinating talks on the art of composition.
