St Mary’s University Visits In the Physical Education Department, we feel it is essential for candidates on the A level course to experience life in a higher education environment, on courses the A level may lead to. We have enjoyed a good relationship with St Mary’s University, Twickenham for a few years and they are superb at providing course content within three days that completely re-visits our specification. They also put much of the theory learned in the classroom into practical experiences to further back up of learning. Day One – Theory, Testing and Training In a laboratory environment all candidates undertake a full regime of performance assessment, the theory behind the component of fitness being assessed/ the test itself. This leads into seminars on the training methods employed to access gains in these components. Day Two – Psychological and Social Principles of Physical Education revision lectures/ seminars A day of lectures and seminars with a variety of university lecturers on skill acquisition, sport psychology, and sport and society. All pupils will enjoy three separate full day visits to St Mary’s:
