CONSCIOUS CONSUMER CHECKLIST
Small choices. Meaningful impact. Every purchase we make is a vote—for the kind of world we want to live in. This checklist isn’t about perfection. It’s about becoming more aware, more intentional, and more aligned with what truly matters.
SECTION 1 BEFORE YOU BUY (Pause & reflect habits)
SECTION 2 WHAT YOU BUY (Product-level awareness)
Do I really need this, or is it impulse? Can I borrow, share, or reuse instead? Do I already have something similar? Will I use this regularly or just once?
Is this product reusable, refillable, or long-lasting? (e.g., concentrated or refill systems like Melaleuca’s EcoSense line) Is it made from safe, environmentally responsible ingredients/materials? (free from harsh chemicals) Does it reduce waste compared to alternatives? (such as concentrated products that use less packaging) Is the packaging minimal or recyclable? Is this a better-quality option that will last longer? Shift mindset: Buy better, not more.
Is this solving a real problem in my home? Tip: Using effective products that require less per use helps reduce both waste and effort.
SECTION 3 HOW YOU BUY (Consumption behavior)
SECTION 4 AFTER YOU BUY (Responsibility doesn’t end at purchase)
Did I bring my own reusable bag? Am I buying in bulk to reduce packaging waste? Am I choosing refills or concentrated products over single-use items? Can I support brands that align with sustainability values? (e.g., companies focused on safer homes and reduced waste) Am I avoiding single-use items where possible?
Can I reuse or repurpose the packaging? (like refill bottles or durable containers) Do I know how to recycle or dispose of this properly? Can I extend the life of this product? Can this item serve more than one purpose? Can I share or donate it when I no longer need it?
SECTION 5 YOUR IMPACT (Reflection section)
