Beware of phony Air Miles offer

Think that phone call about free Air Miles sounds too good to be true? It is. The OPP are warning residents in Eastern Ontario to beware of an old-style telemar- keting scam with a new kind of lure. Police have received reports about home- owners receiving automated calls stating they have won Air Miles. The message in- cludes instructions on how to claim the prize. The homeowner is then put in touch with a person who starts asking for personal in- formation, including the homeowner’s own Air Miles account and credit card informa- tion. Anyone receiving this kind of automated call is advised to just hang up. Police report that Air Miles does not use any automated message system to contact their clients. Re- ports on this fraud can be made by phone toll-free to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 begin_of_the_skype_ highlighting.
