Let’s CAN hunger The Agapè Centre and the LCBO Brookdale location are gearing up to help CAN hunger in Cornwall by col- lecting 5,000 cans of food. The LCBO is encouraging local resi- dents to support their canned food drive challenge by bringing canned goods to the LCBO Brookdale location or by making a donation to the Agapè Centre up until May 25. The Agape Centre is a not-for profit organization, supported by the com- munity to ensure that no family goes hungry, cold or without any of the basic necessities of life. Student art show An annual flooding of bold imagina- tions, the Student Show is coming to the Cornwall Regional Art Gallery from Saturday to June 13. Featuring a variety of works by local high school students, the student show gives a chance to budding artists to share their work beyond the school walls. The show’s opening reception takes place Saturday afternoon, May 19 at 1 PM. Several artists should be in atten- dance. The reception is free and open to the public. Students feeding worms A Kindergarten class at Gladstone Public School has begun setting aside their apple cores, banana peels, and even old stinky socks, so they can feed the worms that live in their classroom. Their ‘classroom vermicomposting’ became a reality because of a school partnership with All Things Food of SD&G, who applied for funding from TD Friends of The Environment to fund the initiative. The project includes a wooden worm hotel that came complete with a starting colony of approximately a ¼ pound of red wiggler worms. Mock training exercise The Cornwall Community Police Service- Emergency Response Team will be participating in a joint training exercise with the St. Lawrence Second- ary School staff as well as Emergency Medical Services in responding to a mock emergency situation that will take place at St. Lawrence Secondary School on Thursday, after students have vacated the school. The Cornwall Fire Department will also play a role and plans to involve student role play- ers from the St. Lawrence College Po- lice Foundations Program.
