Sire of lot 5164 My friend Dennis Voss offered this bull up for us to use based on how well he worked up there at Horse Butte. He comes from the Oliver program in GA. The Olivers use straight Wye genetics and apply their own maternal selection pressure to them. Ed Oliver was an excellent cattleman and good friend to Larry Leonhardt. We only used 911 for one breeding season and he got turned out in a very competitive mob. Unfortunately we only identified one calf by him. The calf is a good one. Bred by Oliver Angus and owned by Horse Butte ranch.

He is proud fronted, free moving, and very virile. Larry Leonhardt named his sire Pivot because at the time he was born he thought Pivot was a bull that offered a positive genetic contribution to any and every cow in the Shoshone herd. It took Larry a lot of time and effort to get every animal slotted in just the way he wanted in Pivot’s pedigree. Pivot Point’s dam Shoshone Prudence 6157, should be everyone in the cow businesses model of what a functionally efficient female looks like. She shows up on the top side of this pedigree as well and it’s just another layer of positive, forward bred depth to his pedigree. He is “Shoshone Yellow” through and through. When I got this bull home, as I studied him, I thought “man this bull has that same look in his eye that Larry did as he studied me across his desk through the Winston smoke.” It was a very wise look. So we call him “Smoke” in honor of Larry. So far the Smoke calves are everything I expected. Smoke sons are athletic and virile, driven harder by sex than by appetite and their best days are out in front of them. The Smoke daughters should be where he really shines. At this point they are beautifully feminine, wedge shaped, clean made, and a bit smaller than our average. I know this kind pretty well and they do require a bit of patience. They’re going to get there and be about everything you’d want, but it will take them a year or two extra to do so. With that being said I expect they will pay dividends with extra longevity, and will be very functionally efficient. We are keeping four Smoke sons to use in our program and all of his daughters. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em! Bred by and proudly co owned with Dockweiler Angus
