King's Business - 1960-11

Epistle in full expository fashion. It is not unduly pedantic, but is devel oped on a level high enough to chal lenge the serious student, yet not too difficult to be read by the layman who has had a fair education and knows something of the Old Testament. Dr. Wiley has leaned heavily upon Adam Clarke, who remains as prob ably the greatest of the Wesleyan commentators, but his reading has been wide on the Epistle, also. It is to be expected that certain sections will reveal his Arminian position, which he presents forcibly and with out apology. His extended discussion of Christian perfection is a succinct summary of the best teaching on that subject. Those who cannot follow all the way with Dr. Wiley in some places will nonetheless appreciate his many insights into the deep teach ing of the Epistle. 438 pages; cloth; Beacon Hill Press, Kansas City, Mo.; $4.95.
