“ TTs 25 years a long tim e?” JL“Yes, Ardyth, especially in look ing ahead. But in looking back on 25 years the passage of time seems to be breathtaking in its swiftness.” “ Is this your 25th marriage anni versary, or is it your birthday anni versary?” Mark questioned Mother. “ It’s our marriage anniversary, Honey.” “ I thought so. That’s what I told my teacher. Is that why the church people gave you all that money? Why did they give you silver dollars?” “ Because when people are married for 25 years it is called the silver anniversary.” “Well, I’m glad you had it be cause now we are rich.” “We are rich, Mark,” Mother smiled as she tucked her “ caboose” into bed. “ But fifty silver dollars didn’t make us so. It is ‘the blessing of the Lord (which) maketh rich’ .” We had planned to celebrate our important date with a week at Yellowstone Park,—just the two of us. We had planned on this for some ten years. But the long move from Florida to California, coupled with some other unexpected expenses, knocked the plans awry. This Mother wasn’t too disappoint ed because of the unfulfilled dreams. In the process of rearing nine chil dren she has learned to take disap pointments in stride. “ I didn’t know you were married for so many years, Mother. But I’m glad you have been.” As he prayed, Paul told the Lord: “ I thank Thee for letting Mother and Daddy love each other. Dear Lord, I’m so glad you have helped them hold this house together all these years. Please help them to hold it to gether until I am grown and away to school.” In spite of an underlying selfish motive in the little boy’s prayer, Mother felt a surge of warm gratitude flood her being. In sharing the nug get with Daddy we agreed the best celebration of our 25 years together is being loved, and honored, and needed by our precious family.
