A year ago, when he found it neces sary to move about with the assist ance of the walker, a unique idea came to him. “The Lord just gave me this idea,” Mr. Whitman says with a smile. By taking a long pole, at one end of which is fastened a clothes pin, Mr. Whitman puts a tract in the clip mouth. Then, when cars come to the stop light of a moderately busy inter section near his home, he puts the tract to the window of the car and offers the printed evangel with a friendly smile.

Mr. Whitman was converted dur ing evangelistic meetings in an old wooden church back in Minnesota at the age of 16. The verse which challenged him is one which he de lights in using in his “ street comer pulpit.” Though he is now 85 years of age, he gives out approximately 100 tracts per day, every day of the year. “ Once in a while people refuse me,” he says with a smile, “ but generally they thank me for them. Frequently, when people are not in the right lane,' I have seen them go up an extra block, turn around, and come back just to get what I am giving away.” Mr. Whitman is a member of the San Gabriel Union Church, San Gabriel, California.
