unto God through him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Ueb. 7:24, 25, R.V.). ' Now we toil along life’s pathway, heavily burdened; we are so slow tp understand, so unready to obey, so firmly rooted to earth, so far from what we aspire- to win. But the Saviour leads us tenderly along our heaven ward calling; His prayer smooths the rugged way. He renews our feeble strength so that our hope may shine forth in brightness. Sanctification is being perfected in -us. At last • the wearied pilgrim sees the city of the saints break on his sight; the gates stand open, the Saviour comes to meet His child, and clasps him securely in the everlasting arms. ‘‘I will ” He says to the Father, “ that they also whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am.’ ’—David M. McIntyre.

16. Thrice Daily “ Evening, and morning, and at noori, w ill I pray, and cry aloud; and he shall hear my voice” (Psa. 55:17). Ere you left your room this morning, Did you think to pray, Asking God to bless and keep you Through the coming day? Have you bowed before the Father As the noon draws nigh, Thanking Him for every blessing Coming from on high? And as evening draws the curtain, Shutting off the light, Ask that God may watch and keep you Through another night. —Marvin Miller. 17. Lessons in Patience “ And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing” (Heb. 11:39). Prayer is not always answered at once. When the message came about Lazarus, the Lord abode In the place where He was. He did not go, even at the request of the sisters, because Hè had something still better for them. Abraham was promised a son, but had to wait twenty-five years before the son came; and so we are told in He brews 6 about those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. There Is no difficulty about the faith but Just a little difficulty about thé patience.—W. H. Griffith Thomas. Being full of the Holy Ghost, looked UP -,■ • and sawk” There Is a vision which only comes with spiritual fu ll ness. In the world of nature, the sight Is the door to the spirit; but In the world of grace, the spirit Is the door to the sight. In the natural life, God enters from without and penetrates within; in my spiritual life, God en ters from within and makes His pro gress outward. The first thing in the life of nature is the last thing In the life of the spirit—vision. I am often asking why it is that so little is re vealed to me; it is because I myself am so little. If I had more spiritually, I would have more sight. —George Matheson. How Faith Comes “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rom. 10:17). I suppose that If all the times I have prayed for faith were put to- 18- Spiritual Sight he. being full 0f the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly Into heav- en, and'saw . . . Why is it that Jesus loved crowds? It is because “when he saw the mul titudes, he was moved •with compas sion . . .” And this was not only be cause He liked folks—which He did— nor because He was happiest when He was busy at a worth-while task. It was because the very sight of them stirred His extraordinary knowledge of human nature to feel their heart- throbs, and reach out a helping hand —the way we feel in a casualty. The difference between Him and us is that He did not need any casualty. He was so divine that He was more hu man than we are. —Arthur Stevens Phelps.
