Blade Repair Standard / V4 2023-05-02
ELEMENT 18.1 - MINIMISE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH COMPOSITE FIBRE WORK
Learning objective:
160) The participants can act independently in applying the knowledge gained during the general safety topic to the working environment to minimise the risks associated with composite repair work (Ability, intermediate level)
The instructor shall:
Explain the safety precautions and personal protective equipment requirements for working in the workshop area (Recap from general safety) Continually assess and give feedback on the participants’ ability to apply the knowledge gained during the general safety module to the working environment to mitigate the risks associated with composite repair work
The participants shall:
Practise the ability to apply the knowledge gained during the general safety and chemical safety lessons to their working environment by correctly selecting and using PPE appropriate to the task in hand and to work in a safe manner with the materials and tools required for each process
ELEMENT 18.2 - FIBREGLASS MATS
Learning objective:
161) The participants can describe the different types of fibreglass mats used in blades (Knowledge, basic level)
The instructor shall:
Define the terms ‘chopped strand’ (CS), ‘unidirectional’ (UD), ‘biaxial’ (biax), ‘triaxial’ (triax), ‘areal weight’ and ‘zero direction’ in relation to fibreglass mats used in composite laminate structures
Describe the terms ‘woven mat’ and ‘stitched mat’
Explain why stitched mats are used in wind turbine blades
Ask the participants relevant questions about the different terms used for describing fibreglass mats used in blade repair
