ELEMENT 5.12 - BROKEN BONES AND INJURIES TO JOINTS/MUSCLES
Learning objectives:
63) The participants can describe how to apply measures for immobilisation and correct axial, pain-relieving positioning of the casualty (Knowledge, basic level) 64) The participants can describe how to use the ‘RICE’ (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) method (Knowledge, basic level) 65) The participants can apply splint material, and other immobilisation/stabilisation materials (Skills, intermediate level) 66) The participants can solve the challenge of how to position casualties with a head injury (Ability, basic level)
The instructor shall:
Explain and demonstrate while asking the participants involving questions throughout:
a. measures for immobilisation and correct axial, pain relieving positioning of the casualty, including the use pelvic binders (as appropriate and according to national guidelines)
b.
‘RICE’ (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) method
Create exercises on the use of splint material, and other immobilisation/stabilisation materials
Give constructive feedback to the participants’ performance in the exercises
The participants shall:
Engage in answering the questions and share understandings about:
a. measures for immobilisation and correct axial, pain-relieving positioning of the casualty, including the use pelvic binders (as appropriate and according to national guidelines)
b.
‘RICE’ method
Engage in the exercises and practise use of splint material, and other immobilisation/stabilisation materials
