“Reach Out To The Best Care For Your Feet!” FOOT & HEEL PAIN RELIEF

Why Does My Foot Hurt? Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the thick tissue on the bottom of the foot. This tissue is called the plantar fascia. It connects the heel bone to the toes and creates the arch of the foot. Plantar fasciitis occurs when the thick band of tissue on the bottom of the foot is overstretched or overused. This can be painful and make walking more difficult. Physical therapy is an effective treatment for plantar fasciitis by using stretches and manual therapy to restore mobility to the foot.

Foot and shin pain can come on from many different causes. The most common causes develop from changes in the way you walk, un-supportive footwear, long term standing, walking, or running. If you or someone you knowmay need relief from foot or heel pain, schedule an appointment by calling our office at 770-622-5344 or visit www. johnscreekpt.com.

IN MEMORY OF JOHN MARTIN

When I started the patient of the month segment of my newsletter I could not think of anyone else I wanted to be the “First” Patient of the Month. John Martin was one of my first patients back in 2003 when I opened Johns Creek Physical Therapy. Actually, he was patient zero. I met John a few weeks before I opened my doors while I was doing fill in work for a nearby clinic. I remember John was dealing with a shoulder problem and he told me he was “trying to prevent surgery.” I saw him twice that week and left the assignment never imagining I would cross his path again. A few weeks later, I opened this business. The second week John walked in to make an appointment. We looked at each other and said almost in unison, “I know you!” Turns out he was not able to avoid surgery and he was coming in to start his rehab. This chance encounter turned into a friendship of over 14 years. For the first three years I was open there was not a week that went by where I didn’t see John. Not just as a patient, but as a friend. John and his wife Kathleen came to our first Christmas Party. A University of Maryland alum, John met Keith, another UM

alum, who was being treated at the office, and the three of us developed a very special friendship. Every year we get together for lunch just for the fellowship. Over the years John and I shared a lot of laughs, developed a special friendship and shared a lot of great memories. When I started the patient of the month section of the newsletter, John was not able to come in for his photo. He was in the hospital. After a lengthy stay he was released to go home. Unfortunately, he passed a few weeks later. If you have been in the office you might have noticed a table I dedicated to him in 2016 for 13 years of loyal patronage. His photo here is from that day where I dedicated the table to him. John Martin, my friend, is our Patient of the Month. I miss you buddy.
