Voisine Street was one of the neighbourhoods hardest hit by last year’s spring flooding in Rockland. Other areas included the Pago Road neighbourhood, along with some portions of Clarence and Fox Island, which was almost inundated. This year there may not be any flooding thanks to a milder winter and spring season. Les municipalités de Casselman et de La Nation ont déclaré le lundi 6 avril l’état d’urgence sur leurs territoires. «Il était nécessaire de le faire, a déclaré le maire Daniel Lafleur. The OPP detachment in Rockland seeks a person of interest in a March 18 petty robbery at a local gas station. A man walked into the gas bar that after- noon and stole about $120 worth of ciga- rettes. The gas bar’s closed-circuit television system caught images of the suspect (see photo) and police have released a descrip- tion of the person of interest in the case. He is described as Caucasian, standing between five-foot-ten and six-foot-one, or between 177 and 185 centimeters, with a large build. He is in his early twenties and has brown, shoulder-length hair. The day of the robbery this person was wearing a white-and-dark-green T-shirt, dark pants with red side lines on the pant legs, a black ball cap, and white running shoes. Tout a commencé par une idée pondue sur un message Facebook. Dans sa publication, elle discutait de sa vision du besoin tel qu’il se présente, soit pour les consommateurs d’avoir la possibi- lité d’obtenir un accès plus facile et efficace aux produits et services locaux tout en rassemblant la région

Be- fore shipping an order, take care to verify the information provided by a customer. That includes telephone number, email address, shipping address, and other details provided for the order. Be careful when dealing with “priority shipments” as fraudsters may ask for a “rush delivery” to get their stolen goods before the fraud is detected. In some cases the shipping address may not match the billing address on the payment or credit card provided. Be wary of orders that seem to come from repeat customers but do not match their usual spending and ordering patterns. Business owners should contact their online processor and make sure secu- rity measures are in place for automatic verification of customer orders to reduce the risk of fraud. L’enseignante prend les devants et lance une page communautaire Facebook ayant pour but de soutenir et rassembler les différents entrepreneurs, entreprises et artistes de la région de Prescott-Russell. «Ce que je veux à travers ce projet c’est de rassembler l’esprit communautaire à la largeur de Prescott-Russell. On a tous les produits dans la région, mais on manque de cohérence», a fait valoir Mme St Aubin. Le projet a déclenché un effet boule de neige. Deux autres personnes ont rejoint Leeça St Aubin dans sa démarche. Il s’agit de Pamela Brasseur, enseignante en arts, et Patrick Brunet, qui s’occupe du volet marketing. Le trio s’est mis à voir grand et a décidé de lancer une plateforme Web qui sera le relai entre consommateurs et commerçants de la région.
Mme St Aubin estime que cette plate- forme serait aussi une option à notre mode de consommation actuel très dépendant de l’importation et des grandes surfaces. «Cette crise nous a fait réfléchir à comment nous consommons aujourd’hui. Cette initiative, elle est là pour dire à tous qu’on peut trouver des commerçants, fermiers près de chez soi avec des produits de grande qualité», a indiqué Mme St Aubin. Depuis la création de la page, près de 80 personnes se sont inscrits par le biais d’un formulaire sur Google disponible sur la page Facebook “ Signé local - Local with Love – PrescottRussell”, qui vise à récolter les informations sur les artisans, fermiers et commerçants locaux. «C’est un grand défi, mais c’est génial», a lancé Mme St Aubin. Cependant, cette initiative citoyenne pourrait prendre une tournure d’une nouvelle entreprise locale. «Pour le moment, c’est une initiative gratuite qui rassemble les consommateurs et les producteurs locaux, mais rien n’empêche que son évolution passe par une entreprise, a expliqué Mme Saint-Aubin. Con artists are adding to the worries of Eastern Ontario businesses try- ing to keep afloat during the current pandemic situation. The OPP Anti-Racket division issued a warning to all businesses in the Eastern Ontario region about a rash of “Card Not Present” (CNP) fraud attempts that focus on phony online or remote sales opportuni- ties. A favourite target for the fraudsters are car, truck, and recreational vehicle dealerships. The CNP fraud involves a call from an alleged customer by phone, email, or through the company’s website. The fraudster uses a stolen payment card and a counterfeit driver’s licence for the payment process. The goods are either delivered through a shipping company or by arrangement to a person who shows up with a rented van or trailer. Either delivery method also involves use of a stolen payment card. The fraud is revealed when the actual owner of the payment card contacts the company to protest the unauthorized charge on the card. The business suffers the loss because it has to reimburse the

«Je voulais offrir un peu de joie aux citoyens d’Embrun. Ces lumières sont un message d’espoir dans cette période difficile.» Depuis la semaine dernière, un drôle de spectacle se produit en plein centre du village d’Embrun. Chaque soir, entre 19h et 23h, un spectacle de lumière d’une rare beauté enveloppe les murs de l’Église Saint-Jacques, qui sont ornés d’un arc-en- ciel coloré, magique et plaisant. Que la lumière brille Ce spectacle de lumière a été très bien accueilli par les résidents locaux. Depuis peu, les réseaux sociaux ne parlent que de l’église et les jeux de lumière qui l’embellissent chaque soirée. Le bâtiment le plus emblématique d’Embrun est devenu la vedette des réseaux sociaux. Des photos sont parta- gées et elles récoltent des centaines de commentaires élogieux. Derrière cette initiative se cache un certain Alain Brisson, natif d’Embrun, pro- priétaire de ME Productions. «Étant donné que tous les évènements sont annulés et que ma société est à l’arrêt, je voulais offrir ce spectacle à toute la communauté et aussi continuer dans l’expression de mon art», a indiqué Alain Brisson. «Ces lumières veulent dire, ça va bien aller. On va dépasser cette crise», a ajouté M. Brisson.

Cédrick Guindon a été repêché en pre- mière ronde par l’Attack d’Owen Sound, une nouvelle consécration pour ce jeune hockeyeur de Rockland. «Je n’étais jamais aussi content depuis ma médaille olympique, a lancé Cédrick Guindon. C’est un rêve qui se réalise.» Le jeune hockeyeur de Rockland a été repêché le 4 avril par cette équipe de l’Ontario Hockey League (OHL). En effet, le médaillé olympique était le 10 e du choix, un exploit pour ce jeune espoir. Le joueur de l’année dans la ligue midget AAA de l’est de l’Ontario a toujours joué pour sa ville, Rockland. Ses parents ont toujours assisté à la plupart de ses matchs. Ils ont même fait le voyage en Suisse pour le voir défendre les couleurs du Canada lors des Jeux olympiques de la jeunesse, qui se sont déroulés à Lausanne cet hiver. Mais avec cette nouvelle, le jeune hoc- keyeur sera amené à s’éloigner de ses parents et de sa maison. «J’aurais aimé rester proche de chez-moi, mais je crois que l’Attack d’Owen Sound sont une des meilleures équipes pour se développer et acquérir de l’expérience, je suis très content de ce choix» a indiqué Cédrick Guindon. Il poursuit: «Je sais qu’ils ne pourront pas assister à tous mes matchs qui se dérou- leront à six heures de route de Rockland, mais ça va être plus facile pour eux quand je vais jouer à Ottawa ou à Kingston.» Quant aux parents du jeune de 15 ans, ils sont très heureux et fiers de leur fils. D’ail- leurs toute la famille a assisté à la séance de sélection ce samedi matin, diffusé sur la chaine YouTube de la OHL. «Mes parents étaient tellement contents pour moi, a raconté le hockeyeur. On a eu la même réaction. Nous nous sommes pris dans les bras. C’était un beau moment de famille.» Il faut dire que le jeune homme natif de Rockland attendait ce résultat depuis la suspension de la saison de hockey en
