if you sort that data, well, you have just sorted the data set only where the filters are applied. The rest of the data, unfiltered columns, remain stationary. You basically are left with a Rubik’s cube of data, but without the colored tiles to guide you back home. Time to trash it and start over. Rule #2: Remove duplicates across all data columns. Why? Same as with applying filters across an entire dataset. Excel will only remove duplicates within the columns that are highlighted and if done so on only a few columns within the dataset, the information will compress, but any information tied to that instance will remain stationary. Again, trash it and start over. Rule #3: Paste or Infill to bottom of dataset. Why? When auto infilling or pasting information or formulas, ensure it is done to the entire or end of the dataset. This is not as disastrous as Rules 1 or 2, but will cause inconsistencies or voids in your data. There’s really nothing to it, just a few basic rules and a little bit of patience; with yourself and the data. Knowledge is power and understanding data is the
key. Always ask questions and remember, your role is important and it is well worth the effort to get the right answer, not just an answer. Happy Data Diving!
